Colyntha Mashein

The Amyrlin Seat

Although she was born to the old and highly respected House Mashein (muh - SHANE) of Manetheren, Colyntha has only seen her homeland a few times.  Her parents, Lord Damon and Lady Saraline Mashein, were Manetheren's Ambassadors to Eharon, and she grew up amidst the pageantry of the royal court in the capital city of Londaren Cor.  During the first fourteen years of her life, the demands of their job kept her parents in Eharon, and she, being of a close age, was raised with the young Prince and Princess.  Just after she turned fourteen, she and the sixteen-year-old Prince Valerian realized that they were in love.  They had been about to announce to the court their intention to marry when Colyntha's family was called back to Manetheren to attend the funeral of the High Seat of House Mashein and to elect a new one.  With a new High Seat installed, Colyntha was presented to the royal court of Manetheren.  It was there that the Aes Sedai advisor to the King sensed the spark in her that otherwise would not have shown itself for a few more years.

Brokenhearted but knowing that she would die without training, she went to the White Tower, telling Valerian that she would return.  Her determination to succeed and return to her love led her to spend only three years as a Novice and five years as Accepted.  When she was finally raised Aes Sedai, she chose the Gray Ajah as seemed only natural considering her upbringing and calm friendly personality.

After two years as full Aes Sedai, Colyntha was sent to her beloved Eharon as advisor to the Queen.  This allowed her to see the Prince again, but though they still loved each other, they realized that they had grown apart over the years that they had missed spending together and that their duties could only serve to keep them apart.  During her three years as advisor, she helped to arrange marriages for both the Prince and Princess.  After this period of time, she was called back to the Tower to become the youngest Gray Sitter ever elected to the Hall.

Later that same year, Colyntha had twin babies, refusing to name the father, but his identity became apparent seven years later when the boy, Hadrin, was sent to Londaren Cor to be raised as Eharon's Prince by Valerian (now the King) whose marriage remained childless.  The daughter, Selara, remained with her mother to be raised in the bustling atmosphere of the White Tower, and there is never a shortage of Novices, Accepted and Aes Sedai willing to watch the girl and keep her company.  Many hope that Selara will show the spark and will become Aes Sedai.  Colyntha remains mostly silent on the issue, saying only "The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills."

Eventually, after only fifteen years as full Aes Sedai, Colyntha was raised to the Amyrlin Seat.  As Amyrlin, she is very disarming at first because of her open friendly personality, which intimidates some people because they do not expect that from an Aes Sedai, let alone the Amyrlin.  Though she can and will use the power of her postion to get things accomplished, she prefers to win people over instead.  She is not only respected but well-loved as well.  She uses her extensive memory to keep up with the goings on of almost everyone in the Tower and to form friendships with them, including the Novices and servants.

Her greatest strengths are in Earth and Spirit.  She has the rare Talent of Delving and is a respected artisan in Power wrought metals.  She also knows how to use Compulsion but keeps this under the strictest secrecy, preferring to use her skills of diplomacy and her position (if necessary) to get things done.

She wears elegantly simple clothing in bright colors that accentuate her warm caramel brown eyes and her long sandy blond hair that is usually left loose, flowing to her hips.  She almost always wears her jewelled knife although it is because of Eharon custom rather than for use.  After all, Colyntha abhors violence and sees it as only a last resort.  In her normal appearance, she is generally considered pretty in a plain way, but, when she dresses for important occassions, she has been considered stunning.
