Novice is the first stage to becoming an Aes Sedai. At this rank, it is not believed that the young woman is mature enough to handle the Power without an Accepted or Aes Sedai present. Novices also must obey all Accepted and Aes Sedai, keep their rooms clean, wear their spotless white dress and follow many other rules. If they break the rules (as they are sure to do at least once), they are punished by the Mistress of Novices.
