What is #middle-earth? How do I get there? I don't understand this whole IRC thing :(



#Middle-Earth is a chat channel on EFnet dedicated to the writing of JRR Tolkien. There are often trivia games, discussions of characters, dicussions about the current attempt at making a movie, and then there's the weird stuff which is not worth mentioning here, but is definitely fun. All you need is an IRC program such as Ircle for the Macintosh and Mirc for Windows. Then set the program to sign on to an EFnet server such as: irc.nol.net irc2.blackened.com IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. Essentially it is a place where people can get together and talk live about common interests. There are several IRC networks including Efnet, Dalnet, IRCnet, and Undernet. On almost all of these networks there can be found channels called #tolkien. These are good places to go, but not nearly as fun as #middle-earth :) Once you download an IRC program it should contain directions on connecting to the above servers and then joining #middle-earth.
