Much of downtown Fresno either was or is owned by Armenians.  You will see many buildings named after them or their business names.  Shamlian building comes to mind, I forgot to take that pic.
Below is Sam Alexanders business.  Many old timer HVAC contractors will tell you that he was one of the main suppliers back in the day.  I know for a fact, he was no competition as a wholesaler recent days.  I went to take this pic and I saw the sign on his window, 'going out of business'.  Another one gone, but the recent immigrants are making up for the differences.  I don't even know how many new or total Armenian restaurants there are in Fresno.  Sam Alexander was also a veteran, and if I remember right, he either served in a war or near era.
Another guy who has been around Fresno for a long time also, Rafi.
He is the only Armenian shoe repairman in all of California!
I hope his boss doesn't catch him just cruising the front of his store on company time :o) as depicted here.
Anshusd, William Saroyan! Go read his books for more info on him, his Armenian/Fresno upbringing, and his life.
