Arkansas State Route 245 is part of a future highway spur at Texarkana. The 2003 State Highway Map from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department notes this highway as being "Future Interstate 130". As of Sept. 2003, all SB traffic is forced off at U.S. Rt. 71 on the southeast side of Texarkana. This map also shows the highway going to the Arkansas/Texas State Line, and in Texas being under construction to U.S. Rt. 59. The 2003 Texas Official Travel Map from the Texas Departmant of Transportation shows this highway ending at U.S. Rt. 71 in Arkansas. Just south of the current U.S. Rt. 71 interchange, a new stack interchange is being cinstructed. This is probally where the new expressway that is being built from Arkansas State Route 160, near Doddridge to Texarkana, along U.S. Rt. 71 will join in to the highway. All of this is part of the proposed Interstate 49 extention from Shreveport, Louisiana.
The 2006 Arkansas State Highway Map features the U.S. Rt. 71;AR St Rt 245/549 interchange on its cover. AR St Rt 245 is open from the I-30 interchange to the Arakansas/Texas State Line. At South State Line Ave., AR St Rt 245 becomes TX St Rt 151.
The Arkansas Highway Commission has names Arkansas State Route 245 the Hickerson Freeway. It runs from Interstate 30 to the Arkansas/Texas State Line. The highway stretch is being named in honor of Prissy Hickerson, a Texarkana resident who is about to finish 10 years of service on the commission and recently served two years as chairman. As Hickerson leaves her position, she said the apparent high bidder for initial dirt work for a 1 1/2-mile highway section from Highway 245 to I-30 for future I-49 work is Austin Bridge and Road for $34.9 million.* AR St Rt 245 passes through the following town in Miller County.
