Jakarta Post 05 May, 2001 JAKARTA (JP): The Maluku Police have completed the dossiers on Alex Manuputty, a leader of the Maluku Sovereignty Front (FKM) whom police claim is involved in treasonable activities, and are ready to hand them over to the Maluku Prosecutor's Office, an officer said Friday. "The dossiers will be submitted to the Maluku Prosecutor's Office on Saturday," Maluku Police chief Brig. Gen. Firman Gani said. "If the prosecutor's office is closed on Saturday, we will hand them over next Tuesday as Monday is a public holiday," Firman said as quoted by Antara on Friday. The Maluku Police detained Alex on Monday, following the recent hoisting of the separatist flag and alleged treasonable activities in the disputed province. A brief 10-minute flag-hoisting ceremony took place on April 25 at Alex's house in the Kudamati area of Nusaniwe district at about 7 a.m., but shortly afterwards the flag was pulled down by police. The separatist flag was hoisted alongside a United Nations flag and Indonesia's national red-and-white banner. A person suspected of engaging in treasonable activities may be charged with violating Articles 154 and 155 of the Criminal Code on displaying hostile intentions towards the state/treason and expressing hostility against the government. The Articles carry a maximum penalty of seven years and 4 1/2 years in prison respectively. Separately, Pattimura Military Commander Brig. Gen. I Made Yasa said in Ternate, the capital of North Maluku, on Thursday that the military was ready to quell any separatist movement. "We are ready to back up the police but I believe that the case has been resolved by the police," Yasa said. (edt)
