MAJOR PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN BY
ASHOK KUMAR TIWARI
1. AUTOMATED TRANSMISSION SYSTEM EXPANSION PLANNING 1987
The aim of this project was to present salient features of transmission system expansion planning and mathematical modelling of automated power system. Mathematical modelling resolves whole complex physical network into state transition expression. The expansion of power network is so planned and designed to give satisfactory capacity factor without overloading any of its elements. Computer Programmes were made for automation of planning calculations, network sensitivity and determination of gradient vector. Two pracical consideration was done for Maharastra 400 KV and 220 KV transmission system expansion.

2. QUANTISED TECHNOLOGY FOR PLASMA KINEMATICS 1984
This project was highly R&D oriented in industrial applications of plasma, the fourth state of matter. design of plasma electric generator, plasma metal cutting machine and microwave oscillator for the measurement of electron spin resonance of plasma are some of the real time inventions. Phase over-potential in layers of plasma was analysed and some new electro-chemical applications of plasma were suggested. Instument for measuring plasma oscillation frequency was developed.

3. MAJOR ISSUES IN TECHNO-FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT OF COAL INDUSTRY 1996
A careful and thorough presentation of the major issues in techno-financial management in Indian coal industry as the consequences of management decision is underlying theme of this project. The orientation continues to be managerial with an emphasis on identification and solution of the problems conforting Indian Coal Industry. The concept relates it to the overall goal of wealth maximsation in coal sector. This project is an eye opener to the corporate planners and directors of Indian Coal Induster facing competative global trade. The project is pin-pointing the reforms and changes needed in prese policy. The project suggests phases of reforms so that Indian Coal Industery shohld prepare to face with the challanges of 21st century.

Research Metodology use
d-
A thorough search of secondary sources of informations such as records, documents, journals, periodicals in mineral technology, coal mining was made.
Experience survey was made as to tap the experience and expertise of knowledgeable persons such as corporate managers of coal india ltd. through a series of unstructured interviews, questionnire and discussions. these managers were requested to give their views and opinions on the various aspects of techno-financial management of coal industry.
Case study of indian coal mines was made with purpose to robe deeply and analyse carefully the major issues with a view to establishing generalisation.

on the basis of above following points of study were made
-
critical analysis and review of coal mines policy, privatization policy, foreign investment policy, public sector undertaking policy etc.

fast exploration and resouse augmentation technology, coal extraction technology, utilization of low grade coal, project impimentation, technology obsolescence, safety issues in coal mines, Output per manshift in open-cast mines and wage-productivity relation.

Environmental impacts of coal minng on air, water, land and man-a subjective study, exploration strategy for environmental management, land reclaimation and protection of environment from the effect of coal mining operation.

financial issues, financing alternatives, coordination between technical and financial personnel, imported coal vs indigenous coal, cost control and efficiency , financial performance data
organisation issues , human resourse profile, HRD infrastructure for implication.

SWOT
Analysis of Indian Coal Industry

Some stead-fast steps to bring down the cost of production in coal mines.
Thrust areas for improvement of productivity in open cast mines.
Recommendations for environmental maagement.
The way our PSU Manager works.
Directions for future research.

4.DESIGN AND RENNOVATION OF EARTHING SYSTEM FOR EHV SUBSTATIONS 1995
This Project was implemented in a 132 KV sub-station of M.P. The step and touch potential of substation was calculated from these data a new earthing system was developed for older EHV substation.

5.DESIGN OF AUXILIARY POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER FOR MISMATCHING  RESIDUAL VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS IN CAPACITOR BANK 1996
The project includes selection of  core laminations, calculation for cross sectional area of core, finding the number of turns and SWG of windings, core dimension and winding area, window spacing etc. The auxiliary potential transformer was design, made and put to service at one of the substation of M.P. for 33 KV , 5 MVAR Capacitor Bank.
