HONDA STANDS ALONE
Two months had passed. Musashi's body was still missing, Togo, Yi and Hanga had taken the three creatures and adopted them into their homes as pets. Tomoe had been appointed Guardian of the Tamamayu Book by Ieyasu Tokugawa. Peace reigned supreme throughout the kingdom. Honda had spent the morning wandering through the plains, and had found himself atop a cliff, far from the fortress. The air itself stood still, and Honda stood alone; totally alone with his thoughts. He gave a small muffled sigh, rubbed his rib cage, which had healed quite well, and stood out on the very edge of the cliff and looked back in the distance to the castle. He pushed out into the cool crsp wind, and closed his eyes. He knew if he leaned out any further he would fall down the cliff, but if he pushed just the right amount, he could feel like he was flying. He pushed his arms out like wings and stood with his eyes closed fo about 30 minutes; trying to forget everything that had happened. Then suddenly he colapsed to the ground, sat with his legs crossed and back bent, curled into a ball. He could not forget, but maybe he could make sense of it. Musashi's death, the release of the dragons, the wooden statues, the creatures, the necklaces and the book. How much power was it still concealing? Why had it been discovered now? Why had it chosen them? What was the meaning of all this? Is this the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning?
Honda flopped back lying on the ground, his knees bent over the edge and his legs dangling, and swaying slightly with small muscle movements. He pushed out his limbs, straining all his muscles, in the shape of a star and could no longer hold the frustration inside.
"WHY? Why? ... why?" and he lay in silence for a few minutes looking up at the shape of the clouds, hoping some devine force would give him the answer in such a simple sign.
Honda's eyes became droopy, but he had no desire for sleep. He just sat up, feet still over the edge and he looked down the long drop. He came to realise that none of it made sense, it wouldn't make sense to anyone. Only the creator truely knew what it all meant, because he was the one who had written their fate. Their destiny was in his hands.
