The U.P. Philippines-Japan Friendship Club, also known as U.P. Tomo-Kai, is a duly recognized organization in the University of the Philippines, Diliman. It is a venue where the two cultures, both Filipino and Japanese, can meet and foster better relations.It inspires to be a bridge between two countries.

 

Pursuant to its objectives, U.P. Tomo-Kai will be holding its 8th Filipino-Nihongo Speech Contest on Saturday, September 25, 2004. It will be held at the Dalisay J. Aldaba Recital Hall (behind the University Theater) from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

 

We are inviting everyone who’s interested to participate in the said event. Please read further for the mechanics of the contest. For Filipino contestants, members of U.P. Tomo-Kai may translate a speech written in Filipino or English to Nihongo.

U.P. Tomo-Kai’s  8th Filipino – Nihongo Speech Contest

 

 

CONTEST GUIDELINES:

  1. The contest will be on September 25, 2004 (Saturday) from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Dalisay J. Aldaba Recital Hall (behind the University Theater) in the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.
  1. The competition is divided into two categories: the Nihongo Category for Filipino contestants and the Filipino Category for Japanese contestants. There will be 6 contestants for each category.
  1. Speeches will be judged according to the following criteria:

  1. An applicant must be a native Filipino/Japanese national with a background in the Japanese/Filipino language, and should not have been to Japan/should not have spent more than a year in the Philippines for study grants or for leisure. He/ she must also be a bonafide student of any college or university in Metro Manila. He/she must submit the following on or before September 10, 2004: a duly accomplished form, a copy of a 3 to 5 minute speech written in Romaji/Filipino, and a cassette recording (demo tape) of the speech.
  1. The topic of the speech is left to the discretion of the applicant.
  1. A screening committee shall determine the final list of contestants. Qualified applicants will be informed of their acceptance on or before September 17, 2004.
  1. Prizes are as follows:

Filipino & Nihongo Category

 

First Prize:                       Php 3000 worth of gift certificates + Trophy

Second Prize:                  Php 2000 worth of gift certificates + Trophy

Third Prize:                      Php 1000 worth of gift certificates + Trophy
