This is another form of divination declaring its roots back in the early early times. Some theorize that these little growths and birthmarks are either formed on the body by astrological influences at the time of birth or upon the embryo at the time of conception.

Thanks to the past centuries of folks who studied these - observations, comparisons, assignation of traits and happenings -- with which have been collected for the benefit of future generations of what they seem to be associated with in the aspects of human character and destinies.

The interpretation of moles and birthmarks depends upon two factors, their actual physical appearance and the part of the person's body that they appear upon.

Physical Appearance
SizeIn general, the larger the mole or birthmark is, the greater the force of the omen which it indicates (either good or bad). Thus a large mole portends more than a very a small mole, which is not totally discounted but said to have not to have much force behind it in relation to its omen assignation. ShapeA round mole or birthmark is fortunate, but one pointed , angular, or straight-sided brings bad luck. One that is raised to that stands out prominently is very fortunate, unless it is modified by other circumstances.
ColorLight colored moles and birthmarks (white, yellowish, honey-colored, pale brown, or red) have positive significance; darker the color- the more strength in its influence for misfortune. HairinessThe more hairs present on a mole or birthmark, the more unfortunate it's meaning; while a hairless one can be regarded a s a positive sign *unless* its influence is affected by a modifying circumstance. Long hairs are unfortunate in monetary concerns; thus shorter hairs brighten the prospects in the money/wealth department.

If it is the left arm, however, anxiety over financial matters will never go away for long. BackA mole on the back gives an open, franks, and generous disposition with a tendency towards display. There is a strong romantic strain in the character, which is inclined to degenerate into sensuality and a love of luxury if it the mole is located very low down in this area.

To the confidence and ambition tendencies, he will attach temperament as well; he will readily fall in love, and be most easily approached thru his feelings. He will be easy-going, sympathetic, and generous, but lacking in decisions and constancy of purpose.
On A Woman: will be ardent and sincere in love, but on her guard lest the warmth of her own feelings and excessive trust in the good intentions of other people to do something that she may later regret. She should not allow herself to give into depression.
A mole in the center of the breast, either male or female, indicates that the person will never enjoy wealth, although he or she will never want for the necessities of life and the needs of simple comfort.
Cheek; MouthRight Cheek; Foretells a happy and fortunate marriage; the nearer to the mouth it is located, the greater will be the wealth and good fortune brought to the person by their spouse. The lucky possessor of a mole on this part of the body will never be reduced to poverty or anxiety regarding means of existence.
Left Cheek: Is an omen that warns of many difficulties that will stand in the way of fortune and success. Courage, perseverance, and a firm will are needed in the many struggles that can fall to the person. Those who possess these qualities in a good manner stand a good chance of winning these battles and build up a good career; but weaker and less sure persons will be more apt to "go under" as the hand of fate is felt against them.
Chin Fortunate indeed to have a mole on either side of the chin for it is thought to be a sure sign that they will be favored by destiny in almost all of their undertakings. Even without much effort on their own part, they stand a chance to be lifted to wealth and prosperity; and will enjoy the affection and regard by those around them. If only on the left hand, it lessens the fortunate significance Hip; SideThe man or woman who has one on the right or left hip will spawn many strong and healthy offspring ... who in turn will themselves have numerous offspring. If both hips are marked in this manner, the force of the omen is increased slightly.

Knee Right Knee: Happy marriage, the wedded life will pass easily and smoothly; unhampered my monetary problems or serious stresses.
Left Knee: Be more inclined to act without forethought ... and will often have cause to regret this rushing in attitude. At heart, though, will be upright and kindly and possess a sympathetic nature.
Leg A mole on any part of either leg between the knee and ankle areas shows a careless a indolent nature; a person who possesses a mole in this area will most likely be selfish, lazy, and lacking of sympathy towards others. Lip; Mouth On either lip, a mole foretells of a pleasant, upbeat personality combined with a hint of sensuality and indolence. Those who have a mole so placed are fond of the good things in life and often turn deaf ear to duty if it conflicts with this pursuit of pleasure. They are ardent lovers and yet their constancy is not above reproach. If the mole is large and located on the lower lip, this omen has a more sensual significance; the women are thought to be heartless flirts and the men not better. If the mole is on the upper lip, greater delicacy is revealed ... although the nature of the person is sensual, it is modified and controlled by refinement and good taste.
Neck; Throat A mole on the side of the neck reveals that the person will suffer a remarkable up and down feeling in the course of their life. The progress of career will at first be slow, but with persistence can be rewarded. Unforeseen gifts and legacies and inheritances are indicated as well the fortitude of having faithful friends. Wide travelling and frequent change of scenery are also indicated. A mole on the side of the nose (especially in women) often gives a voluptuous temperament.
Ribs: Side Weak, cowardly disposition is revealed by a mole on the right side of the ribs. Those who have this mark so placed will be indolent, lacking in intelligence and delicacy, and of a bullish type nature. If the mole is on the left hand side, these characteristics will be modified to some extent and tempered with a touch of good humor. Shoulder A mole on either shoulder portends of a life of hard work with much adversity.
ThighA mole on the thigh gives a warm, enthusiastic temperament; and if it is the right thigh that has the mole it also denotes of prosperity and a happy marriage. If the mole appears on the left thigh, however, the omen is reversed ... warning of loss of money, injustice and loneliness; the warmth and frankness of their personality will be met with many rebuffs. It is a very common occurrence that a mole on the thigh is also accompanied by one on the ear. Throat A mole on the throat or on the front of the neck is a fortunate sign ... denoting of a wealthy marriage or successful career.
WristThe subject who has a mole on either right or left wrist will have a very interesting and successful career. Their own intelligence and the talents they are blessed with are valuable assets and will generally ensure them of success and happiness in life.

CURIOUS NOTE : Some say that a mole or birthmark is a carry-over from a past life wound(s), perhaps one(s) that brought about the end of the life itself. The more red in coloring it appears, the more severe the injury and/or recent of a past life. *shrug*
