What's New at the Source?

Restructuring Completed

[1998.03.09]

The Source has been trimmed from 95 to 65 categories, each with a page of their own. Many of the resources have been rearranged, but very few of them have been eliminated. The purpose of this restructuring

Some categories were merged with others temporarily while we gather other resources to supplement them and build them into worthwhile lists.

More additions are planned and one major restructuring of categories is being discussed. Please, if you have any comments positive or negative about the changes we've already made, take a moment to tell us about them via our feedback form.

More Updates

[1998.03.08]

Still working on breaking the categories up into their own pages. Most of the design section is now separated. Copyright, fair use, and intellectual property links have been combined into one category, Copyright Issues.

Risen from the Dead

[1998.03.07]

This past fall and winter has been good for me/us, but bad for projects like the Source. Axiom Web Press is no more, but I'm living in a really cool new house, have another system to work on and have many other projects flourishing with MoonBoots Enterprises. If it weren't for the e-mail a day flow of somebody wanting their site included on the Source, I might have let it go completely.

You can expect quite a bit of rearranging of recources (if it gets to be too much of a hassle, drop me a note and express your complaint). The re-design isn't for cosmetic freshness, but rather, to give each category of resource more room to grow gracefully. Some categories have been dropped because they seemed to have nothing to do with Web Publishing. There are others that are nearly as irrelevant for the precise purpose of Web Publishing, but I include them because I've found them useful for most computer users.

General Update

[1997.09.24]

This week's update to the site probably won't happen, but I promise there will be some more additions to the site and to the lists of resources. Along with the programming that's taken up most of this past week, Jon still doesn't have her system back in working order, and I've been sick. Everyone else has their own lives to lead, so things have been a little slack. I'm really hoping that some of our regular visitors will be really kind and send us their favorite bookmarks to Web publishing related sites. If you do, I promise that all of them will be put up immediately. (How's that for feeling guilty for letting this go unattended?)

So, now's the time for shameless self-importance folks. Send us your favorite URLs in copious amounts to moonboots@earthling.net.

New Links

[1997.09.19]

93 links added. 14 removed. Due to a restructuring of the Sun Microsystem's site, our links to Java Server resources were decimated. We will work on getting this updated this week. Many new multimedia (especially sound) links have been added as were quite a few SGML resources to the HTML page.

[1997.09.12]

114 links added, 31 removed. There are now 2 new subsections, Tips and Tricks in the Graphics area and Dynamic HTML in the HTML area.

[1997.09.08]

A new sub-section of the Design area was added earlier today, Hit Counters, with more than 20 new links to both pay and free counter services.

[1997.09.05]

One sub-section of the Graphics page has been added, fine arts. The reasoning behind that was simply that I could imagine a few of you might get some extra inspiration. The Web is, after all, a medium that assimilates other media.

The largest number of additions are in the search engine submission sites, web server, and graphics libraries categories. More than a hundred new resources were added, making up, to a small degree, for the development hiatus of the past few weeks.

Search for More

[1997.09.16]

In trying to add more value to the Source, it was suggested that we use some of the search fields we'd developed for the Poseidon Computer Systems site. So, we added forms for seven of the major search engines to the Source's index page. This gives visitors a second way to find the exact information they are looking for.

New Articles

[1997.09.15]

I've been working on a new language reference to include some of the more obscure considerations and newer ideas involved in HTML authoring. Comments and Client Pull are the first in what I hope will be a valuable series. If anyone else would like to help in this large project, I would would be most appreciative. At the rate the current rate of production, I predict it to take until HTML 6 or so before I've documented HTMl 4 to my satisfaction. You could be the one to make the difference in this.

Also, a listing of Internet Country Codes has been formatted and posted.

Restructuring Begun

[1997.09.15]

The decision to begin the long-overdue restructuring of the Source has been made. This process may take some time, but it should be fairly seamless. Frequent visitors will notice more and more sub-sections being broken off into individual pages where each listed resource will be accompanied by a brief description. We do realize that this may make this site slightly more difficult to navigate, but we feel strongly that the added depth of information will provide more value than the current structure.

Comment, complaints, and suggestions (as always) are invited.

Search Area Added

[1997.09.12]

Having decided that there were enough search related resources to justify its having an area of its own, we've taken the relevant sub-sections of the General and Marketing Pages and moved them to a Searching area. Along with this, there have been quite a few code streamlining measures taken. This means that the file sizes of all pages are now much smaller, and we don't have to worry just yet about a total restructuring.

The Nature of the Web Article is currently not available from the other areas of the site. There's a good probability that it will turn up again once the new navigation system and overall structure of the site goes through its planned update (later this month or early in October). It hasn't been removed from the server and is still available through the above link.

All-in-One Form Moved

[1997.09.08]

As promised earlier, the Source's All-in-One Feedback Form has been moved to a separate page to give the other pages a little more breathing room. It can be accessed from anywhere you find the Feedback link.
