I Will Not Think of You

I will not think of you...
I will not fall again
Into the earthy depths of your eyes.
I will not feel again
The satin warmth of your hair.
I will not miss again
The breathless twinkle of your smile.

I will not think of you
Whenever loneliness strikes...
And when the emptiness sets in...
When my eyes fill and my throat swells...
When I feel that half my soul is missing...
It will not be for thoughts of you.

Thoughts of you are painful,
But they are not the source
Of the jagged wrenching that
Rips the wind from my lungs
In sudden crystal remembrance...
No... That icy grip is caused by...
Something else... Not you at all.

I will not think of you
Every time I drive alone...
But...sometimes...if I park at night
In some quiet, starlit place,
Awed by the beauty and the solitude...
Then I might feel you beside me.

I will not think of you
Every time I gaze at horses...
But if, by chance, they play
With manes and tails flying long and free...
Running wild as the wind...
Then I’ll remember your spirit.

I will not think of you
Every time a raindrop falls...
But when the heavens blow
Misty gusts through my hair,
And lightning glows in the distance...
Then will you thunder in my mind.

I will not think of you
Every moment of the day...
But... When I hear your name...
When I see your friends...
When the slightest detail reminds me of you...
Then I’ll surrender my thoughts to nothing but you.
