When I get a spare moment, I immerse myself in researching my family tree. I have extensive files on my maternal grandfather's name (Royse) and my paternal grandmother's name (Patten), but I have only just begun to seek information on my other ancestors (Laulainen, Sorri, Pihlaja, Seppä, Senkel, Wainright, Bolton, Wandersee, and Boyle).Laulainen, Sorri, Pihlaja, and Seppä are Finnish names. Patten can be traced back through Nova Scotia and Massachusetts to England. Bolton, Wainright, and Royse are English, Boyle is Irish, and I believe Wandersee and Senkel are German.
I am also interested in working on my husband's family names, which are Schein, Frank, Brailoff, Stricker, LaVine, Finkelstein, Olff, Greenwald, and Budwetski.
I have corresponded with many many of my Patten relatives, which leads me to believe that we are genetically inclined toward researching our past. I have two tidbits for those of you who might be Patten descendents. First, our relatives make brief appearances in Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's historical books (A Midwife's Tale and Good Wives). Ulrich writes about women in New England during the colonial era. Second, if you are related to the branch of the family that intermarried with the Bridges, I have evidence that some of our Bridges' ancestors were accused during the Salem witch trials. Contact me if you want more information on either of those details.
For those of you who are Laulainens. I have posted two items on the web relating to Oskar Laulainen. The first is his report card from 1897-1899. The second appears to be his Sunday School record. Both items are in Finnish. Translations, courtesy of cousin Jani Poutiainen, are at the bottom of each file.Links to other sites on the Web
