Endless summer
.
Just a random moment
of a seemingly endless summer month we spend together
sharing cheap, disposable juice cartons
that make this now the precious keepsake that we cannot find,
can’t find until it finds us.
You patiently, quietly, sip your juice,
sparkles in your brown eyes as you look at me.
I cannot mention all the things that make you so special,
I couldn’t if I had a hundred summers like this,
but this quiet faith, this peaceful trust,
the way you never ask for anything that makes me want to give you the world,
the way you smile a naturally genuine smile,
the way the kisses from your soft lips are as sweet as the pineapple juice we share,
these things are a start, if I had to begin somewhere.
Strange how days slowly blend into weeks
and the last week of our magical month is all but gone,
the twilight of a meeting we could have never predicted,
so like the fading daylight outside, ah where does time go?
I softly squeeze your hand and prepare to get up.
We already know we will spend another magical night together
and while we know our time is running out for now,
we will always hold hands and sit cheek to cheek
in the dying sunlight while waiting for the stars
of our own, endless summer.
