News! News!

End of Time comes early to sleepy Swiss village!!

Cugy Interfax News Service was first on the scene this afternoon as incredible storms and tornados burst over this small Swiss village. Following hard on the heels of the tempest came fire, as the pompiers struggled to control the raging infernos.

An official from the local authority, who told your interpid reporter that he "just happened to be passing by", whispered that the fire could be seen as a blessing in disguise as it would allow the Commune to continue it's ambitious growth plans - the house in question could now be razed and a new ten storey communal office block built in it's place!

Previously, the 100kmh winds had reaked serious damage to the world famous Cugy Castle, as tiles rained down on unsuspecting lawns down below.

One local resident was quoted as saying "Oh well, at least our really expensive sidewalks have survived. A million francs well spent!"

More new sidewalks to be built!

Cugy is rapidly becoming the sidewalk capital of Switzerland as another huge public investment plan gets the go-ahead from citizens. In a shock move, only one vote against the plan was recorded (yours truly) during the latest public assembly to discuss the spending. The Syndic of the village, a certain Mr.Chuard, tricked people into thinking that more sidewalks would mean less overflights from military jets stationed nearby. His plan appears to have backfired however, as local peasants, fed up with walking around in cow shit all day, now want carpets laid in the car park! Whatever next!

NEWSFLASH!

Major Celtic sidewalk in Cugy region!

The Cantonal Archaeological Service, working on the route of the new motorway, has uncovered a number of Celtic burial sites only two kilometres from the village of Cugy. Dating from the Hallstatt period, these finds are accompanied by a number of artifacts: a bronze hairpin, a sandle buckle, natural glass and more. These discoveries tend to confirm the Cugy Interfax News Service scoop concerning the existence of a celtic trackway running from Payerne towards the Crotte de Chèyres, and lying between La Tène and Yverdon. The archaeologists work is ongoing and should help to place the Broye at the heart of the Swiss Celtic civilisation, during both the Hallstett and La Tène periods.
