HOMES IN VIRGINIA WHERE JEFFERSON LIVED

> I am trying to determine if Thomas Jefferson lived in any other homes in > Virginia besides Monticello. If so, did they have proper names like > Monticello? Any information you could give me regarding this question will > be greatly appreciated. He was born and raised at Shadwell at the foot of the Monticello Mountain, and lived there for 2-3 years before the family moved to Tuckahoe. While attending William & Mary College in Williamsburg, Jefferson lived in the building refered to as "the College" beginning in March 1760 and for the next 25 months. Jefferson and his family lived in the George Wythe House in Williamsburg in 1776 when Jefferson was a delegate in the General Assembly. When elected Governor in 1779 he spent a year living in the "Governor's Palace" in Williamsburg; and then moved with the government to Richmond in 1780, where he rented the house owned by Jefferson's uncle by marriage, Thomas Turpin (husband of Mary, sister of Peter, Thomas Jefferson's father). Besides Monticello, Jefferson also owned a second home, Poplar Forest. Jefferson owned other lands, but he apparently did not ever lived on them for any extended period or time. In addition to the above residences, Jefferson also was enrolled at Rev. William Douglas' school when a young boy, and he lived with the Reverend and his family. After his father's death at Shadwell, Jefferson was sent to school with Rev. James Maury in Albemarle Co. He lived with him and his family at Edgeworth all week until Saturdays when he returned home to Shadwell. George Wythe usually boarded the young men who were studying law under him, which Jefferson did after he completed college.
