RELIGIOUS
COSTUMES

   Interi Shinto Priests  wear a very simple white cotton poncho over a standard white judo gi and white hakama tied with a length of rope along with a white cotton headband. ( This is worn for all religious activities within the shrine )

 
PONCHO
 

Interi Shinto Monks wear a very simple red cotton poncho over a stadard white judo gi with a white hakama tied with a length of rope and they wear a red cotton headband.( This is worn for all religious activities in the shrine )

 

Congregation shrine attire

 Worshipping members of the congragation wear a very simple black poncho over their street clothes tied around the waist with a piece of rope along with a black headband . ( This is for use in the shrine only ! )  


FOOT WEAR

WITHIN SHRINE:
  All members of the shrine must wear standard straw zori ( sandals) within the shrine .
 

OUTSIDE SHRINE:
  Members can wear street shoes ( no sneakers) for religious activities outside the shrine where they are requirted to wear the standard poncho & headband. 


FOR MISOGI
WATER PURIFICATION CEREMONY

 All members of the shrine must wear a simple white poncho over a white tee-shirt and white judo gi pants ( tied together with a simple piece of rope around the waist, knot tied to the left side, for the MISOGI or ritual water purification ceremony . ( no footwear is worn )

note * Monthly MISOGI can be done in a group of privately, in the shrine or elsewhere, provided it follows standard proceedures. 


JEWELRY

 No members will wear any jewelry inside the shrine except wedding rings . No watches, decorated jewelry, bands, hair pins, ties, etc..
* All valuables must be left with security personel before entering the shrine . 


CLEANSING

All members must do a symbolic cleansing before entering the shrine at the outside washing station . ( A Shinto Shrine is a private place of worship where one enters a union with nature )  


SHRINE CREST ( Mon )

  Each shrine has it's own crest which is assigned by the high priest of Interi Shintoism. This mon or Japanese family crest must be displayed at the shrine entrance and at the main worship sites.
( It can be silk screened on the front & back poncho of the priests and monks  for the general shrine use of the congragation . )

All mons on the poncho will be exactly 10 inches in diameter, located dead-center of the poncho, four inches below the neck hole .
The mons on the white poncho will be solid black in color, while it will be white for use on the red or black ponchos.
