Friendships and Cellular Phones

by Edgar Leon

Its a great thing to have a friend. Friends come in all shapes and colors. They are easy to talk to and never stab you in the back. The don't pretend to know it all or refute everything you say. Have you noticed that when you argue with someone who is not your friend, they get loud, defensive and change their face expression? A friend would never do that. I have not realized how lucky I have been. I have many friends who deserve the friendship award. If you are sick, the friend is there for a visit. If you are in need for someone to talk too, a friend is always willing to listen regardless of how boring or how many times you have bugged the hell out of them with the same story. We should have and celebrate a national friend day. I have always valued friendships.

I'm not talking about the hypocrites who use you, or stab you in the back. Have you ever experienced a call from a person who you had considered your friend and after ten years of not hearing from them all of a sudden they appear to ask you for a loan signature. For these type of friends I have a special place. The name of the place I reserve the right to put on print.I like friends who are sincere and do not force there friendship on you. I have had some friends who called me every weekend and practically harassed me to go visit them. They also wanted to vist me every weekend witout an invitation. I mean, I was ready to call the police and have a retraining order on this friend. I ask myself, Don't these people realize what they doing?

I noticed that there are many lonely people in this world who need friends but sometimes when they have one, they want to use it up like a new Christmas toy. I don't like friends who are always asking for a loan. You know that the probability to get repaid is the same as a lightning falling on your head. Have you had any friends who likes to live like a king but have a salary of a peasant? This lifestyle becomes a burden on their family and friends. Sometimes they don't have money to eat but they still want to have a cellular phone to impress the hell out of their friends. Is it really necessary? Now that I mention cellular phones, I can tell you that some people live about 5 miles from work and still need to call their wives to ask , " Honey, what's for dinner?". No wonder telephone companies are rich. They are taking it on people with no control over their spending. Some even missed their house payment one month to cover the new car payment and vice versa.

There should be a law against overspending. There should be a law against cellular phones. Many accidents are happening because of this new luxury. I wonder, can't people just stop at a gas station and call? Some of my friends spend so much on phone calls that they can buy a new car with the money spent. I understand that for emergency calls this invention is great. I want my medical doctor to have a cellular phone so just in case I get a hart attack they can call him quick. But paying for a cellular phone just to horse around and talk crap, its just a little expensive. They say in the newspaper that in the future, new cars may come with the phones as a standard item. I would probably have it disconnected if they are going to charge me an arm and a leg per minute. You can't control minutes talked when you are on the receiving side. They also keep making cellular phones so small that you would need a tooth pick to dial the phone anyhow. Not for me! I like those large dial number phones.

Those I can see without the glasses. If I had a small cellular phone I would probably not see what I am dialing and end up calling the wrong person. The telephone company likes to multiply caller minutes like rabbits. There is also a hidden costs for roaming. Sorry, I would take mine with no roaming service. It's against my religion to roam. Can anyone tell me what roaming the phone is? I can just see it now. Someone would call me and after several minutes I'll tell the person, "Sorry but this call is getting to expensive for the crap you are talking, plus the charge for roaming is extra" and I will hang up. That would be very rude and I will probably lose a friend or client. That's OK, I'll continue calling my friends on the regular garden variety 35 cents pay phone even though they don't smell too good and don't work all the time. You would say that I'm biased against cellular phones, maybe if I had one for free I would probably use it all the time.
