Although the book basically deals with Canadian literature, the one chapter titled "The Origins and Development of Magic Realism in Latin American Fiction" defines the unique style of magic realism in Latin American fictions, its evolution, and contribution to world literature. A useful and appealing source for a better understanding and appreciation on the novel in different perspectives: biographical, political, metaphysical, and its literary, historical, and critical context. Include a chronology. Intended for young adult readers and researchers.

This lecture focuses primarily on different facets of the novel: magic realism, time as linear and circular history, the function and distinction of men and women in the novel, and the novel's message. For students studying literature.

McMurray, George R. Gabriel Garcia Marquez. New York: Frederick Ungar Publishing Co., 1983.

Contain both biographical and critical materials on Garcia Marquez. Different aspects of some of his important works are being examined in the book's six chapters. The chapter titled "Myth and Reality: The Perfect Synthesis" is a good overview that comments only on One Hundred Years of Solitude. For young adult readers.

This book dedicates itself to describe the development of Garcia Marquez's style and writing skills as a writer. The author also shows the connection and influence of Marquez's hometown Aracataca with his fictional world Macondo. For adult readers.
