Introduction

In reading the Bible you have no doubt noticed the Old and New Testaments present God in a vastly different way. Have you ever wondered why the god of the Old Testament is the god of the Israelites only, and had no favorable dealings with the Gentile nations? Have you ever questioned why he loved only Israel? Do you find it rather strange that Israel's god ordered them to kill thousands of people and why he sent the death angel out to murder thousands of innocent infants and children in Egypt? Do you also find it strange that this god is jealous, and he is so jealous that one of his names is Jealous? (Exodus 34:14). These questions trouble many sincere Christians as they read the Old Testament. Seeing that both the Old and New testaments are considered to be the Word of God, this presents a real paradox. To add to this confusion the translators of the Old Testament translated YHWH into LORD rather than the proper name Jehovah. This was no doubt intentional so the reader would not separate the LORD in the Old Testament from the LORD in the New Testament.

In reading the Old Testament we must decide whether the prophets who wrote for their god Jehovah told many lies about him, or if what they said about him is really true. If they wrote lies, then we must discount all they said about their god along with the entire Old Testament record of Jehovah's activity. If they really did tell the truth, we learn that their god Jehovah was a vicious tyrant god that is jealous, lies and creates evil. In this writing we will take the position that they were truthful.

The evangelist Marcion recognized this problem in the 2nd century and dealt with it. The Judaic Christian majority vigorously opposed his view. This developed into the greatest division among Christianity in recorded history. This fact has been so well covered up by Christian historians that very few have ever learned of it. Due to better education and the present day availability of information, this hidden history is now beginning to come to light. In reading the Old and New Testaments many Christians today are becoming aware of the antithesis between Jehovah and the Heavenly Father. The question arises, is the Hebrew god Jehovah and the Heavenly Father one and the same God? Is God both good and evil? The purpose of this writing is to call the reader's attention to passages in the Bible, which without question, show the contrasts (Antitheses) between the Hebrew god Jehovah and God the Heavenly Father, the God of Jesus. This 'Antithesis' is very real and has an abundance of support in the pages of our Bible. I had been in the ministry for over twenty-five years before I decided to no longer make apologies and excuses for Jehovah's bad behavior and search for the answer to this dilemma. After several years of serious study and research concerning this paradox, I now present the results of this effort for the reader's consideration.

"The Antithesis"

The paradox of the Gods

Many observant Christians who have seriously read their Bibles have likely noticed that the God represented in the Old Testament has an entirely different personality than the God of Jesus in the New Testament. Many leaders in modern Christianity either blindly overlook this problem or pretend it doesn't exist. Some have come up with some sort of 'spin' such as 'progressive revelation'. However this does not solve the problem. This discrepancy caused no small controversy among Christians during the 2nd century.

Early Christianity at that time had no New Testament canon, so they mostly used the Hebrew writings for their scriptures. This caused the early Christians to lean heavily toward the Jewish religion. Christianity at that time amounted to little more than a Jesus movement engulfed in Judaism. The apostle Paul's message was that Christianity was not a part of Judaism; because of this he encountered a lot of opposition from fellow Christians. Even the apostles James and Peter were unwilling to turn loose of some of their Judaic beliefs and practices. Some historians have said had it not been for Paul, Christianity would have been absorbed into Judaism by mid 1st century.

When Paul died Christianity took a backward move toward the laws and rituals of Judaism. Very early into the 2nd century the evangelist Marcion canonized the first New Testament. This New Testament stood alone and had no Hebrew writings attached to it. This caused the Judaic Christian leaders to rise up to defend their Jewish brand of Christianity. This conflict grew into one of the greatest divisions among Christians in recorded history. At that time the Judaic Christians called themselves 'orthodox,' and claimed to be the only true Christians. They considered all to be 'heretics' who did not agree with their opinions. However at that time the 'orthodox' faction had no New Testament canon to back up their claim of 'orthodoxy.' They still primarily used the Hebrew Bible, and some other writings from later in the 1st century. There is no recorded evidence of the existence of the four Gospels we have today until about 180 AD when Irenaeus made the very first mention of them. He accepted these four Gospels saying 'there should be four gospels seeing there are four winds'. These Gospels were edited and tampered with by the 'orthodox' faction during the 2nd and 3rd centuries and became the Gospels now in our New Testament.

The very first New Testament canon had been developed by Marcion and was well known by 134 AD. It contained but one Gospel it was called 'The Gospel,' along with the then known writings of Paul, these were Romans, 1st & 2nd Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians (called Laodiceans) Philippians, Colossians, 1st Thessalonians and Philemon. It did not contain 1st & 2nd Timothy or Titus. These writings never showed up until about 160 AD, nearly a hundred years after Paul's death.

Some historians have said some editor or editors of the 'orthodox' persuasion, during the 2nd century, took the Marcion Gospel, edited it and doubled its size by adding some of the early stories of Jesus that had been circulated, then for creditability named it, "The Gospel according Luke." It was then dedicated to Theophilus who was the Bishop of Antioch at that time, AD 140 - 160. This internal evidence dates this Gospel. The editor of Luke admits his information was taken from previous writings and 2nd handed oral information (Luke 1:1-4)

. Marcion's canon included a commentary called 'The Antitheses'. His 'Antitheses' is the earliest record of that word being used in a Christian writing. To counter Marcion's work the 'orthodox' people launched their attack on him by forming what they called the 'Universal (Catholic)' Church. Although they had the four gospels by 180 AD, they did not produce their complete canon of the New Testament of 27 books until 397 AD. At that time the Hebrew Scriptures were attached to this canon, this product was called it the Holy Bible. This 'Holy Bible' was divided into two sections, the Old Testament and the New Testament. By doing this they incorporated their Judaism into the Christian faith, the result, Judaic Christianity.

The teaching of Marcion that irritated the established church most was his teaching that Israel's god Jehovah was not the Heavenly Father, the God of Jesus. To further their cause against Marcion they came up with 1st Timothy, and credited it to Paul, this epistle condemned most all of Marcion's teaching, by doing this they had Paul refuting Marcion's teaching. This epistle used the word 'antitheses', "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to your trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and contradictions (Antitheses) of what is falsely called knowledge (Gnosis)." (1st Tim. 6:20)

With a stroke of the pen the 'orthodox' people condemned Marcion's teaching by the 'authority of Paul' and branding him as a Gnostic and a heretic. Nearly every doctorial statement in 1st Timothy identifies itself to the Marcion controversy of the 2nd century. Many scholars believe that 1st and 2nd Timothy and Titus have the 'footprint' of the editor of Luke & Acts. If this is true these writings can be dated to about 140 - 160 AD when Theophilus was bishop of Antioch. (See Luke 1:3 & Acts 1:1)

The evangelist Marcion was not a Gnostic as claimed by the 'orthodox' people, but he was a well-educated evangelist. He was engaged in evangelizing the Gentiles in the Roman controlled countries, especially those bordering the Mediterranean. He had more converts to Christianity than any other preacher in the 2nd century. History reveals at that time about one third of all Christians in that area were converts of or adherents to Marcion's message. He was well educated in the Scriptures. Even some of those who so drastically opposed him said he was a "man of letters". To Marcion, Paul was his model and teacher, he also believed Paul was the only Apostle who really understood Jesus.

It is not the purpose in this writing to deal with all the beliefs and teachings of Marcion; we will deal only with his 'Antitheses'. It is unfortunate that Marcion's New Testament and his Antitheses did not survive the destructive forces by the 'orthodox' people. However they wrote enough about him quoting his writings, that we know his 'Antitheses' made a very strong presentation of the opposites between the Hebrew god Jehovah and the Heavenly Father, God of Jesus.

The Antitheses

Maricon's 'Antitheses' began by quoting the words of Jesus as recorded in Marcion's 'The Gospel' IV 17, and is in Luke 6:43 & 44, "For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit." He then quoted Isaiah 45:7, "I am Jehovah, and there is none else. I form the light and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I Jehovah do all these things." Marcion understood Jehovah to be the creator of darkness and evil and to represent the tree that bore bad fruit and good tree to represent the Heavenly Father the God of Jesus. Marcion had a very good argument to support his case. He based his argument entirely upon the Scriptures comparing the revealed nature of the Hebrew god with the nature of the God of Jesus, showing their natures to be opposite. This antithesis really exists and is evident when the passages from the Old Testament are compared with those in the New Testament. Radical differences exist between the Hebrew tribal god and the God of Jesus. These differences are quite evident and they are irreconcilable.

The following thirty-five articles of antitheses are based entirely upon the Old Testament record of Jehovah's attitude and dealings with Israel and others. We consider the writings of Jehovah's prophets valid, and are used as they appear in the Old Testament. These statements are then compared with what is recorded in the New Testament concerning the Heavenly Father. Thus showing that an antithesis really exists between the god of Israel and the Heavenly Father, the God of Jesus.

Thirty-five articles showing the Antitheses

1. "Jehovah God formed man out of the dust of the ground, and he breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." (Gen. 2:7). Jehovah made Adam in His own image and likeness. Adam never 'fell', as most Christians believe, it doesn't look much like a fall, when by his disobedience his intelligence and knowledge was elevated to that of the gods. Jehovah said to His council of gods, "Behold man has become as one of Us, knowing good and evil". (Gen. 3:22) Jehovah then took measures to limit human longevity. He admitted to His mistake and "repented that He made man on the earth". "He was grieved in His heart". (Gen.6:6). He recognized He had made a mistake when he saw the humans he created reflecting His own nature. The record says, "Jehovah saw that the wickedness of man was great". (Gen. 6:5) One might say the man Jehovah created turned out to be 'a chip off the block'! The antithesis here is God the Father, through Jesus Christ creates within us a new nature. Through Christ we, "have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him," (Col. 3:10). God the Father creates within us a new nature to counter the nature we received from our Creator.

2. Jehovah set his love on Israel only, while the Heavenly Father loves the world, (Deut. 7:7&8, John 3:16). Jehovah sent his death angel out among the Egyptians and killed thousands of innocent infants and children. (Exodus 11:5&6, 12:29&30) He once ordered the Israelites to, "Kill every male even infants and every woman that had known a man intimately. But keep alive for yourselves all the young girls who have not known a man". (Numbers 31:17).

Jesus said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven" (John 8:12 & Matthew 19:14). Jehovah killed children but Jesus loved children. Every year the Jews celebrate with jubilance and great joy Jehovah's murder of these children. They call this celebration "The Passover".

3. "I Jehovah your god am a jealous god, visiting the iniquities of the fathers on the children to the 3rd and 4th generation of those who hate me. But showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments." (Exodus 20:5). If we take what Jehovah said here at face value, His vindictive hatred was passed on to 3 or 4 generations, while his love was extended only to the generation that loved him. This shows his hatred to be four times greater than his love! Jehovah's love is conditional and to Israel only, (Deut .7:6&7) but the love of God the Father is unconditional and He loves the world. (John 3:16)

4. Jehovah told Moses to get permission from Pharaoh to take the Israelites three days journey into the wilderness to offer a sacrifice to their god. (Exodus 5:3). This was really a lie because it was Jehovah's plan for his people to leave Egypt for good and go to the Promised Land. What about," Thou shalt not bear false witness." (Exodus 20:16), Jehovah lied again, but of the God of the New Testament, "It is impossible for God to lie". (Heb.6:18)

5. Jehovah deceived his prophets, (Jer.4:10 & Ezek.14:9). However Jesus said, of the Father, "Thy word is truth". "All the promises of God in Him are yea and in Him Amen". (2nd Cor. 1:20) So according to the Bible, the God that cannot lie is definitely not the same God who deceives and tells lies.

6. The first recorded lie that Jehovah told is when He told Adam, "The day that you eat of it you will surely die". (Gen.2:17). Adam ate of the tree and did not die that day, but lived to be 930 years old and begot sons and daughters. Gen.5:4&5) The fundamentalists put all kinds of spin on this one!

7. We read something very interesting from 1 Kings 22:19-22. "I saw Jehovah sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by, on His right and on his is left. And Jehovah said, 'who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he might fall in Gilead? So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. Then a spirit came forward and stood before Jehovah and said, 'I will persuade him: Jehovah said in what way? So he said, 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets', and He said, 'You shall persuade him and prevail, go and do so'. This passage goes on to say, "Jehovah hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets" (1st Kings 22:22&23).

This is a very detailed account of how Jehovah and his council, the 'Principalities and Powers', got together and plotted the death of King Ahab. This passage resembles a mafia gang as they devise some evil plan to murder a victim. Again Jehovah confirms his claim to be the creator of evil. (Isaiah 45:7)

8. Jehovah also stirred up the Pharisees, who in a similar manner plotted the death of Jesus; He "blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts," (John 12:40) as a result the Pharisees under Jehovah's influence and by using his law devised a plan whereby they could murder Jesus. In contrast, Jesus said, "The Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them". (Luke 9:56)

9. Jehovah put an evil spirit into King Saul so he would hate David and try to kill him. (1 Samuel 18:10). But the God of Jesus gives us His Spirit without measure. The fruit of His Spirit is "love, joy, peace, and self control". (Gal. 5:22).

10. Jehovah hated his enemies and had them murdered. In contrast Jesus said, 'Love your enemies, and do good unto them.'

11. Jehovah hardened Pharaoh's heart so he would not let the Israelites go. This was so he could inflict more and more suffering upon the Egyptian people, (Exodus 4:21 & 9:12). But when Jesus saw the sicknesses and sufferings of people, "He was moved with compassion for them". (Matthew 9:36)

12. Jeremiah, while praying to Jehovah, called him a deceiver because he 'deceived the people and Jerusalem.' (Jer.4:10). "I am Jehovah. And if the prophet be deceived - - I Jehovah have deceived that prophet." (Ezek. 14:9 In contrast "grace and truth came by Jesus Christ" who said of the Father, "Thy word is truth". (John 1:17&17:17)

13. Jehovah's law stated that whosoever committed adultery shall be put to death. (Lev .20:10). Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery, "Neither do I condemn thee, go and sin no more". (Jn. 8:11)

14. There were 42 children who called Elisha "you bald head' and he cursed them in the name of Jehovah, who then sent two female bears out of the woods and mauled all of them. Their only crime was telling the truth; Elisha was a 'baldhead', (2 Kings 2:23&24). In contrast Jesus said, "Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you". (Matthew 5:44)

15. There was an Israelite man who was killed because of Jehovah's Sabbath; he gathered sticks to make a fire so his wife could cook a meal for his family. This needless murder illustrates the harshness of Jehovah's law, which shows no mercy, (Numbers 15:32-35). "Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy". (Hebrews 10:28) In contrast the Scripture says of the God of Jesus, "But God, who is rich in mercy." (Eph. 2:4). The Hebrew god shows no mercy while the God of Jesus is rich in mercy.

16. Jehovah was NOT all knowing, as he had to call out to Adam "Where art thou?" Gen. 3:9). He had to ask Cain where Able was, and asked Abraham where Sarah his wife was when she was nearby in the tent. (Gen. 18:1&9). He also had to go down to Sodom to personally see if the conditions there were as bad as he had heard, "I will go down and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry - that has come to me, then will I know'. (Gen. 18:21) Jehovah didn't know what was presently happening without personally checking it out; his foresight as to future events was quite dim. God the Father knew future events even some things Jesus did not know. (Matt. 24:36) God the Father is all knowing while Jehovah is not!

17. Jehovah taught the Israelites to love their neighbor and to hate their enemies, but Jesus said, "Love your enemies". (Matthew 5:45 & 46). Jesus said the Father in Heaven loves and does good to His enemies. The Old Testament gives an entirely different message about Jehovah who hated his enemies and often had them killed.

18. Jehovah sent poison serpents among his own people and many were killed. This was His punishment to them because they spoke against Him, (Numbers 21:6). Also when the Israelites complained about having to eat manna, "The wrath of Jehovah was kindled against the people and he smote the people with a very great plague." This plague was a result of Jehovah's anger. So out of spite he sent them contaminated quail to eat and many of the Israelites died. (Numbers 11:33&34). These crimes were not committed by Hitler, Stalin, Mao of China or Saddam Hussein, but by Jehovah the god of Israel. Jesus said, "What man is there among you who, if his son asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?" (Matthew 7:10) God the Father gives good things, and not evil things as Jehovah did.

19. Jehovah boasted of being the creator of darkness, (Isaiah 45:7). He spread darkness over the land of Egypt, but of the God of the New Testament it is said, "God is light and in Him is no darkness at all", (1 John 1:5). This again shows that Jehovah the creator of darkness is not and cannot be the Heavenly Father in "whom there is no darkness."

20. Under Jehovah's law they were to take oaths, but Jesus said, " I say unto you, swear not at all, - -But let your 'Yes' be Yes' and your 'No' be 'No'. For whatever is more than these is from the evil one". (Matthew 5:33&37). Is Jesus really saying the oaths required by Jehovah shows him to be 'the evil one'?

21. In His sermon on the mount, Jesus teaches in contrast to the Law of Moses at least six times. (Matthew chapter five) One of which was "Eye for eye and tooth for tooth." (Lev .24:20 & Matt. 5:38&39) Jesus said, "But I tell you not to resist an evil person." The New Testament teaches against taking revenge, "Repay no one evil for evil'. (Romans 12:17) Jehovah always sought revenge!

22. Jesus said of the Father, "You have never heard His voice nor seen His form." (John 5:37). John said, "No one has seen God at anytime". (John 1:18, 1st John 4:12) Jehovah, according to the Old Testament, had been both seen and heard several times. "So Jehovah spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend." (Exodus.33:11). Moses also saw Him. Jehovah was visible but God the Father is Spirit and invisible.

23. "Ye shall not eat any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it or thou mayest sell it unto an alien; for thou art an holy people unto Jehovah thy God. (Deut. 14:21) According to Jehovah the Israelites should not eat contaminated food, but for them to give or sell it to strangers or an alien. Jesus said, "And just as you want men to do unto you, you do to them likewise". (Luke 6:31).

24. Jehovah inflicted leprosy upon people, (Numbers 12:10) But Jesus cured ten lepers, (Luke 17:12&13).

25. Jehovah called Isaiah the prophet and gave him a message that would confuse the Israelites and cause them to sin, and then he punished them for that sin. (Isaiah 6:9&11). He also told Ezekiel, "If the prophet be deceived, I Jehovah have deceived that prophet, and will destroy him from the midst of the people" (Ezek. 14:9) but Jesus called the apostle Paul to, "Open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light --- that they may receive forgiveness of sins". (Acts 26:18). "You shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21) Jehovah caused people to sin while Jesus saves people from their sins.

26. "Jehovah is mighty in battle." (Ps. 24:8) Jehovah was Israel's war god who led them into many battles and ordered the slaughter of thousands of people, only because they were not Israelites. But the God of Jesus and Paul was, "The God of Peace". (Rom. 15:33&16:20, 2 Cor. 13:11,Phil. 4:9) Jesus was a pacifist and said His servants did not fight. (John 18:36)

27. "I am Jehovah, that is my name and my glory I will not give my glory to another". (Isaiah 42:8) Jesus praying to God the Father said, "And now O Father, glorify Thou Me with the glory I had with Thee before the world was". (John 17:5) "And the glory which you gave me." (John 17:22). Jealous Jehovah (Exodus 34:14) will not give his glory to another, but the Heavenly Father gave His glory to Jesus. (John 17:5) The antithesis here is very clear.

28. Moses sent out 12 spies to spy out the promised land, when they returned 10 of them gave an honest report, saying it was too risky to invade the country as it was occupied by giants, their cities were well fortified and they were well equipped for war. Jehovah's anger was kindled against them because of their honest report. Jehovah saw this as an insult against his ability to win the war so he had these 10 spies murdered. Then "The glory of Jehovah appeared in the tabernacle" showing his approval of the murder of these 10 spies for telling the truth. (Numbers 14:6-10). It might be interesting to note that for the same reasons given by the 10 spies, this invasion was delayed for a time. The antithesis here is, Jehovah had people murdered but Jesus said, "The Son of man is not came to destroy men's lives but to save them." (Luke 9:56)

29. "Jacob have I loved, but Esau I have hated" (Romans 9:11&13, Mal. 1:2&3). Jehovah hated Esau before he was born, before he had done any good or evil. There is not a verse in the New Testament that says or even infers that the Heavenly Father hates anyone. He is said to be, "the God of all grace, consolation and mercy". "God is Love". (1st John 4:16)

30. The Hebrew Bible records several occasions when Jehovah made decisions he later repented of. A few of these are:

"It repented Jehovah that he had made man on the earth, (Gen. 6:6).

"It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king, (1 Sam.15: 11)

"Jehovah repented of the evil that he said he would do to the Ninevites, (Jonah 3:10) "And Jehovah repented of the evil that he thought to do to his people", (Exodus 33:14

The Heavenly Father does not make mistakes or blunders. So He has nothing to repent of. Jehovah makes mistakes but the Heavenly Father does not.

31. Jesus chose twelve apostles all of whom had been taught in the Jewish religion, how to worship and pray to their god Jehovah. But Jesus changed this by saying, "In this manner, therefore pray: Our Father who art in Heaven", (Matthew 6:9). Why did Jesus make this change unto Whom prayers are to be addressed? Several times Jesus prayed and He always addressed His prayers to the Heavenly Father, and told us to do the same. Jesus praying to the Heavenly Father called Him, "The only true God". (John 17:3). Jesus never prayed to Jehovah because he was not the only true god. Paul confirms this by saying, "To us the Father is the only God". (1st Cor. 8:6)

32. In the conversation Jesus had with the woman at Jacob's well in Samaria, 'She said the Jews worshipped in Jerusalem and her fathers said this mountain was the place to worship'. The answer Jesus gave her is very interesting, "Woman believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem worship the Father". (John 4:21). Her fathers worshipped the golden calf in mount Gerizim and the Jews worshipped Jehovah in Jerusalem. Jesus said the Heavenly Father was not worshipped in either place, He made this very clear; the Heavenly Father is neither the golden calf nor Jehovah.

33. The Scripture tells us why the Jews rejected Jesus. "He (Jehovah) blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, (John 12:37-40). The god of the Jews blinded them so they could not believe in Jesus. Paul said, "None of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." (1 Cor.2:8) Jehovah was the god of the Jewish world (age) of whom Paul said, "Blinded the minds of those who believe not the Gospel." (1st Cor. 4:4) Jesus said his ministry was to "Open blind eyes and recover their sight." Paul's gospel was to "Open eyes and turn them from darkness to light". (Acts 26:18)

The question arises, why would Jehovah blind the Jews to Jesus if He were his Son and his promised Messiah?

Jesus said, "Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world (age) is cast out." (John 12:31). And again, "for the ruler of this world (age) is coming, and he has nothing in Me.". (John 14:30). Also, Paul said, "The god of this world (age) has blinded the minds of them that believe not." (2nd Cor. 4:4)

Please note: I am very much aware of the common teaching and spin on these verses, that the "ruler of this world (age)" Jesus was referring to, and "the god of this world" Paul mentions, have reference to the Devil. To apply this interpretation to this Scripture has real problems. Nowhere does the Bible say the Devil is a god or the ruler of this world. The world to which Jesus and Paul were addressing was the Jewish world of which Jehovah was the Prince and Ruler. Christians claim to be Monotheists, but when they make the Devil a god they become Polytheists!

It is very inconsistent to believe in the sovereignty of God and at the same time believe the Devil is another competitive god that can foil the plans of God the Father. What Jesus said in John 12:31 and 14:30 he was really saying Jehovah and his council, the Principalities and Powers, the rulers of the Jewish world, were soon going to be overthrown. This fact is confirmed by The Apostle Paul when he wrote, "He canceled the regulations that stood against us - all these obligations He set aside when He nailed them to the cross, when He cut away the angelic Rulers and Powers from us exposing them to all the world and triumphing over them in the cross." (Col 2:14&15, Moffatt translation) The impact of what Paul said here can only be understood when we accept the fact that the Bible shows Jehovah, to be an angelic god, and the head over his council of gods known as the principalities and powers, and angelic Rulers. Jehovah claims to be "god of gods." (Joshua 22:22) However we learn that Jehovah is a mere angel from the following Scriptures, (Exodus 2:2&4, Acts 7:30, 7: 32 7:35 & 38) Jehovah is the angelic tribal god of the Hebrews, therefore he is not the Heavenly Father, the God Jesus revealed. (Matthew 11:27)

34. We are told that the Old Testament should be taken as a progressive revelation of its god. In other words it is said that God is seen in a better light as time progressed in the Old Testament. To the unlearned this might sound like a good apology, but the Old Testament record does not support it. For example let us take a look in the last book of the Old Testament. "I am Jehovah and I change not." (Mal.3:6). So he doesn't change! For further proof of the dirty mind of Jehovah, he said to the priests, "If you will not take it to heart, to give glory to my name, I will send a curse upon you", then he continues, "I will rebuke your decedents and spread dung in your faces". (Malachi 2:2&3). Can you picture Jesus accusing the Heavenly Father of such a vulgar statement? Any thinking person can readily see Jehovah did not change as time progressed. He is revealed to be of the same nature and character throughout the Old Testament. One can now understand why Marcion rejected the Old Testament as a Christian document and Paul had the following to say about it. "Seeing we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech; - For until this day the same veil (blindfold) remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, the veil is taken away in Christ."(2nd Cor.3:12&14) Paul considered himself to be a minister of the New Testament. (2 Cor. 3:6)

So according to The Apostle Paul, the reading of the Old Testament blinds (blindfolds) one to Christ. Based upon Paul's statement the Old Testament is not a Christian document. It is about a selfish and vindictive angelic war god who boasts of being "Jealous" and "The creator of evil". We can only conclude the Old Testament and its god have no place in the Christian Bible or the Christian faith. One can now see why Marcion as well as many Christians of the past did not accept the Old Testament or its angelic god. The Old Testament was not a part of the first Christian canon, but was added to the New Testament by the Judaizers in the Christian movement sometime during the 2nd and 3rd centuries.

35. Last but not the least, Jesus had the following to say, "No one knows the Son but the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and he to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." (Matthew 11:27) According to Jesus, the Heavenly Father was not known in the world until He revealed Him. Jesus once and for all establishes and confirms the Heavenly Father was not known in the Old Testament. All that we know about the Heavenly Father is what we read in the New Testament. This being the case, Jehovah of the Old Testament is not and cannot be God the Heavenly Father.

Was Jesus really Jehovah's Messiah?

In searching for the answer to this most important question we must consult the New Testament to see if we can find support for the teaching that Jesus is Jehovah's Messiah. Did Jesus fulfill the qualifications for the Messiah as set forth in the Old Testament?

This is one of the prophecies concerning the Jewish Messiah:

"It shall come to pass in the latter days that Jehovah's house shall be established on the top of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow into it". "The God of Jacob will teach us His ways and we shall walk in His paths and out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of Jehovah out of Jerusalem, He will judge between the nations - - and they shall "beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore." (Isaiah. 2 & Micah 4) Did Jesus fulfill this prophecy?

1. Do all nations go to Jerusalem and worship Jehovah?

2. Has Jehovah's law been enforced upon all nations?

3. Did Jesus end all wars as well as the manufacture and use of all the weapons of war?

4. Did Jesus by military force establish peace the world?

Jesus was not a political figure, He never accomplished any of the above nor was it His purpose to do so. Jesus speaking of Jehovah's regime and religion said, "Your house is left unto you desolate." (Matt. 23:38) He also said, "A vine is planted outside of the Father, and since it is not established, it will be uprooted and destroyed". (Gospel of Thomas 40) Jehovah's regime was uprooted and destroyed in 70 AD. Seeing that Christianity has been Judaized, many Christians are praying for the future fulfillment of this prophecy. This is nothing but a false hope based upon another relic of Judaism that has found its way into the Christian faith and is foreign to the teaching of Jesus.

The word Messiah is found only twice in the New Testament. (John 1:41 & 4:25) The Gospel of John we now have is a product of tampering by the 2nd century Judaic Christian leaders, who also mistranslated the Greek word Chrestus (the benevolent one) into Christos (The anointed one) the Greek equivalent of Messiah, thus making Jesus the Jewish Messiah. Jesus was still known as the Chrestus in some Greek New Testaments in the 4th century. Believers were at that time called Chrestians and not Christians. They were referred to as followers of the benevolent one and not followers of the Messiah.

In no uncertain terms, Jesus made it very clear that He did not come to reform or revitalize Judaism or to establish an earthly kingdom for Jehovah. He did not come to sew a new patch on an old garment or to put new wine into old wineskins. (Matt. 9:16&17). Jesus prophesied the destruction of the temple and the demise of Judaism to happen during the lifetime of some of those He spoke to. This prophecy was fulfilled in AD 70 by the Roman army.

Jesus said nothing about His returning to set up a materialistic kingdom. He did say, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight," (John 18:36). The servants of Jehovah were warriors; but according to Jesus His servants are not warriors and do not fight! A real Antithesis!

It is amazing that so many Christians today have been so taught that they do not see the paradox between the Gods of the Old and New Testaments. They have become "Judaic Christians," who see no inconsistency in having a God that is both good and evil. They consistently make excuses for the evil actions of Jehovah. Paul told the Judaic Christians at Galatia they were deceived, foolish and bewitched, and had become "estranged from Christ and had fallen from grace". (Gal .3:1-3&5:4) He also saw Judaism as dung. (Phil.3:8)

In summing up these antitheses (contradictions)

We learn,

God the Father is "Love", (1 John 4:8&16).

Jehovah's name is " Jealous". (Exodus 34:14)

"Love knows no Jealousy", (1 Cor. 13:4)

Love and Jealousy cannot coexist in the same God.

Jesus said both good and bad fruit do not grow on the same tree. He also said of His God, "Only God is good." But the Hebrew Bible says Jehovah is the creator of both darkness and evil, he was very jealous, he lied to his prophets and murdered thousands of people including infants.

Based upon the overwhelming evidence given in the Bible, The god of Israel is a war god and the Heavenly Father is the God of love and peace. Jesus is a pacifist and Jehovah's Messiah is to be warlike. Therefore Jesus is not and cannot be Jehovah's Messiah!

Jesus did not fulfill the requirements necessary to be Jehovah's Messiah. This was not His purpose or His intention. Jesus did not represent the god who was the vindictive god of war, evil, hatred and jealousy. Jesus introduced His God the Father to the world, He was previously unknown until Jesus revealed Him. (Matthew 11:27) Therefore the Heavenly Father was neither known nor mentioned in the Old Testament.

The Evangelist Marcion based his Antithesis upon comparing these and other facts contained the Old with New Testaments. Our Bibles today still show the same great differences between Jehovah and the Heavenly Father and these differences are irreconcilable.

So the truth still remains

"For us there is only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live." "However there is not in everyone that knowledge"(1st Cor. 8:6&7)

The difficulty is, we as Christians have been so brain washed by Judaic Christianity that we have failed to be like the saints at Thessalonica who, "searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so". (Acts 17:11) crb 11/6/05
