Heart beats,
lungs compress, expand,
blood flows,
such is life.
But it's cold,
it's lonely,
when we're far
from each other.
All the rest
just melts away
into nothingness
when I feel you
growing distant,
and I can do nothing
to draw you closer.
I ache to reach you
and give what you need,
but I can't reach you
if you can't reach back,
and it hurts to pull back
my outstretched hand
and feel there is nothing
I can offer you.
I force a numbness
onto myself,
but tears threaten,
as the feelings strain
against my chest.
I miss you
like a dry river bed
misses the flow,
like the plucked bud
misses the sunshine.
Without you
there is no flow,
there is no sunshine.
I know you'll be back,
and with you will return
the flow, the sunshine,
but for now ...
I miss you.
