Our Hobbies and Obsessions

BERNI's principal "OBSESSION"
My obsession is MUSIC. I cannot imagine a world without it. As my friend  Robert "No Falcon" Scott once said: "Music is the only thing the human race have got about half right!".... And I agree with him 100%

I listen to a wide range of music, but I have to confess that melody and the human voice do it for me... I'm not a great fan of music that's "beat" based. So, that means the Nineties were a lean period for me as far as popular music was concerned.

I sing, write songs and play a great variety of instruments badly! I have a collection of instruments which includes six Guitars (Acoustic, Spanish, 12 string, Octave, Electric & MIDI)...two Mandolins (a bowl back and a flat back), a Hammered Dulcimer, two Appalachian dulcimers, a Laud, a Bowed Psaltery, a Saz, a Ukelele, a Mandolin Banjo.... er...two MIDI Wind Controllers...er... oh yes... and a variety of modules and keyboards for making music with my computer.

"To paraphrase John Prine: "There's an instrument on Daddy's wall, where all the money goes..."

My songs are sung in folk clubs from San Francisco to Auckland, passing through Northampton, England, (or so I am told...) My biggest "hit" being "The Daughters of the Revolution" recorded by, among others, Roy Bailey & John Kirkpatrick. Though I'm sure some of my songs are now attributed to "ANON" :-(
My favourite Solo Artist is Joni Mitchell  learn more about her here, and my favourite group of all time were The Incredible String Band - Find out who they were here.
I try to keep in touch with old and new trends by reading the following magazines:

"Q"......"Uncut"...... "Mojo".... and "Folk Roots"

Carmen's principle obsession, before Jana was born, was her WORK!

"I am an English teacher in a Catalan Secondary School. I am always interested in getting Student Exchanges off the ground. So far we have done a "one-off" exchange with Iceland and we have established an annual exchange with a school in Maastricht, Holland. If you know of a school that might be interested in starting an exchange programme with our school here in Catalonia drop me a line at mgarci70@pie.xtec.es. It doesn't have to be a school in an English speaking country. In fact we have found on our exchanges that our students understand others who are using English as a second language better than they do "native" English speakers. Plus both groups are then making an effort to communicate using the 21st Century's World Language!

Jana's principal obsessions are currently:
  1. Mummy (who is currently away in Maastricht)
  2. Daddy (who cannot leave the room without Jana complaining)
  3. Watching Video footage of when she was a baby!
  4. Her "Pop-up High Street", which her French cousins gave her. It's an inspirational toy!
  5. English Nursery Rhymes and the poem "The Dustman" - which I have to read to her every night!
