About the Site
About the Author:
For as long as I can remember I have loved history,
the older the better. So when I decided to go back to school after a stint
in the US Navy, I chose to pursue archaeology. I am currently attending
The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and I am working
for Dr. Mary M. Voigt, who is possibly the most talented Near Eastern Archaeologist
of this or any age. (If she ever sees this she will understand the reference.)
When I graduate in Spring of 2001 (it seems so very far away) I plan on
attending grad school for Near Eastern Archaeology. But until then I continue
studying archaeology, geology, art history and Arabic and German, and during
the summer I work for a Cultural Resource Management firm in the Williamsburg
area, mostly on Colonial and Post Colonial sites. I don't usually care
for American stuff, but once you start, you can't put your trowel down.
It doesn't matter what culture you are working on, it's just too absorbing.
About this site:
When I originally began working on a web site, there was no real game plan, it was just to play around. I started off with various interests until one day I asked one of my history professors why they didn't teach more ancient history courses. He explained that most people didn't want to teach the truely ancient and most students didn't want to take them. As ancient history / archaeology is my hobby and soon to be my career, I find it sad people can't be bothered to learn where they came from. I think it is so important to learn the truth about those who came before you, especially in a world as divided as our own. Only once you learn the history of a society can you truly understand it's culture and why they behave and believe as they do. And in the process you usually learn a little something about yourself.
Eventually I want to add more archaeology oriented articles, but they are somewhat slow in coming. For some reason my professors think I should be working on school work. But I'll get there. Eventually.
I am constantly looking for things to add and change, so please feel free to come back in the future to see what changes and additions have been made. And if you know of any information that should be added, please feel free to let me know.
