Metaphysics Anonymous Motions

FROM: Ernest W McCracken, INTERNET:andrew103@juno.com DATE: 7/12/97 3:13 AM Title: MOTIONS BEFORE THE BORED Subtitle: What we have here is an incredible lack of black holes, and our voids are nil in toto. Scribe: Mu Kraken I would like to make several motions before the body politic (ally correct) of Metaphysics Anonymous. They are as follows: 1. I move that each of us, as a matter of individual option, strive never to operate in a "pressured speech" mode at meetings or spontaneous gatherings. That each of us voluntarily monitor him/herself in this regard and nip pressured speech in the bud before it has the momentum to get out of control. 2. I move that name-calling be considered anathema. 3. I move that heckling, jeering, and mocking, while allowable, be kept within the bounds of respect for the egos, however fragile, of others present and of all members whether present or absent. It can remain Open Season, however, on public figures and on non-members who are not present. 4. I move that the attempt be assayed to make all present aware of the meaning and implications of the term "peak experience", as well as all related terminology. I move that this be done with patience and consideration. 5. I move that participants who wish to participate by non- participation recognize that this zenlike strategy will only be effective if practiced consistently at every meeting. Even one act of active participation spoils the whole gig and transforms it into simple lethargic cowardice. 6. I move that all ideas/concepts/theories be handled with civilized debate, good humor (as opposed to personal derision), or silence. I further move that those who cannot react to a specific idea in such manner may feel free to attempt a change of subject and/or venue--in a civil manner. 7. I move that we do what we say we are going to do. If we agree to meet at a given place then we will sincerely and ear- nestly do our best either to keep the appointment or notify those who are keeping it that we will be absent. 8. I move that all discussions of my physical appearance be suspended until all Ireland is free, there is an independent Palestinian state, and the United States government makes full reparation for genocide attempted on the Native American peoples as well as for the centuries of Afro-American captivity. 9. I also move that I be fully compensated for emotional trauma incurred while clearing the Memphis urban area of psychic vampires. Please note: The above nine motions were voted on and passed at the Chairman's Bday party 1997. I am taking the liberty of offering a tenth motion, which we can vote on, or not, but not both on *and* not, the next time we have a quorum, (which will be determined by concensus). I also suggest that it might be prudent to allow absentee voting, so nobody can complain. 10. I move that we vote on acceptance/rejection of our Mission Statement at first opportunity. Current copies may be viewed by contacting me. FROM: Ernest W McCracken, INTERNET:andrew103@juno.com DATE: 7/12/97 3:13 AM
