7 Suggestions for Writing your Speech

by Clayton Hogg
  1. Jot down all the main ideas that you can think of that apply to the topic.
  2. Research the topic in the library.  For example, the Reader's Guide and book catalog.
  3. Write down the purpose.  Remember, it must be supported by all the main ideas.
  4. Prepare a conclusion that makes clear what you want listeners to believe or to do about your topic.
  5. Prepare an introduction that will catch the listeners’ complete attention.  It must point directly at the purpose.
  6. Select facts and examples from your experiences and research that will appeal to this particular audience.
  7. Reorganize and revise your main ideas into the body of the speech with the most important ideas last.
