Gypsy

The Roma number over nine million in Europe and North America, with many more in other countries around the world. Their language is Romani, the most common dialect group being Vlax. This group originiated in Indian, migrating westward.

They became known as “Gypsies” (which derives from the word “Egyptians”) under the erronious assumption that they came from Egypt.

The Romany language is a Sanskrit descendant, like other Indian and Hindu languages, thus being an Indo-European language, and cousin to English and German.

I'll list some good Gypsy web-sites below, when I have time.
