Here lies W.C. Fields.  I would rather be living in Philadelphia.
Although this epitaph does not appear on Fields' gravestone, which contains name and dates only, Fields' did write and submit it to Vanity Fair in 1925.  U.S. President Ronald Reagan gave the phrase renewed popularity while hospitalized following an assassination attempt when he told the press, "All in all, I'd rather be in Philadelphia."
