Action for Boston Community Development Home Page
"Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) was incorporated in 1962, as a precursor to the national War on Poverty, with an initial $2 million grant from the Ford Foundation and funding from several other sources including the Permanent Charity Fund. Its original mandate, which holds true to this day, was to promote self-help for people and neighborhoods. With the passage of the Economic Opportunity Act in 1964, ABCD was designated Boston's official antipoverty agency."
