Practical Solutions to Practically Every Problem: The Early Childhood Teacher's Manual
By: Steffen Saifer
Publisher: Redleaf Press 1990

"This book addresses all the questions and concerns that are left out in teacher training, but are some of the most problematic ones of all. I admire the straight-forward discussion of sensitive topics and the sound suggestions that are given. This is a book that should be given to all early childhood teachers upon graduation or landing their first job." Kathy A. Bobula, Chairperson, Early Childhood Dep., Clark College

The Quality School: Managing Students Without Coercion
By: William Glasser, M.D.
Publisher: Harper Collins Books 1992

This should be required reading by every school administrator, every teacher, every board member and all university faculty involved in the training of teachers. There is no doubt that we need to squeeze all blame, all coercion and all criticism out of any people-related business. Not until we realize that schools are in a people business will we ever be able to make meaningful changes." Dr. Albert Mamary, Superintendent of Schools, Johnson City, New York

Teachers Talk
By: John Godar
Publisher: Glenbridge Publishing Ltd. 1990

"I couldn't put this one down. The stories told by these teachers are full of emotion, whether they're describing the joys of seeing children learn new skills or the pain of trying to teach in an increasingly unsupportive environment. Unique and thought-provoking are the views reflected in this book." Indy's Child.

A Very Practical Guide to Discipline: With Young Children
By: Grace Mitchell
Publisher: Telshare 1982

"One of the finest gifts young parents could receive is this book. This well-written book has hundreds of illustrations centering on eating, sleeping, bitting, stealing, unacceptable language, temper tantrums, jealousy, and numerous other subjects of parental interest. It's one of those rare, easy-to-read books which could just make all the difference, both in the present and in the future." William D. Brown, Ph.D.

I recently purchased a book entitled, "The Complete Teacher's Guide to Retirement Wealth." It was featured in the NEA Today newsletter. It is a book that every teacher should own. I highly recommend it to my fellow teachers. It is full of valuable information that every teacher should know about supplemental retirement planning, and a whole host of other important financial topics. And, it is very reasonably priced, considering it's content. Just thought you might want to let others know. The site to check it out is www.retirement-wealth.com. Vincent

The Real Truth About Trouble: A Little Can Turn Into A Lot
by Kirk E Seufert
Published by TRTAT Publications; Aug 1999

I recently attended a Yes2Kids Conference in Nashville Tennesse and one of the presenters was Kirk Seufert, an attorney who works primarily with juveniles. He has written a book for kids called The Real Truth About Trouble: A Little Can Turn Into A Lot. The book uses real-life stories from real kids to tell the real truth about drugs, sex, violence, guns, confrontations, crime, gangs, and truancy. It explains how many STDs, drug addictions, felony charges, gun-shot wounds, and unwanted pregnancies can never be fixed -- by an attorney or anyone else. The book was specifically designed for kids in middle-school on up and is written in a language and from a perspective these kids can relate to. That is why so many believe this book is so effective -- it is easy to get kids to read it. I also learned that the Juvenile Court is using the book as a means of prevention and rehabilitation. This book is just such a good teaching tool. I really hope others will check it out, if not for their classes, then at least for their own kids.
-- Marie Andrews, J.D.
