As most of you are aware, our society seems to be becoming increasingly violent. Massacres perpetrated by people driven over the edge are no-longer a rare event. And every time another group of people is killed in this way, the community calls for things related to the killer/s to be banned - if they left a cassette tape in the back seat of their car, the music on it is righteously blamed as the cause of the event. If they watched violent movies, the mystery is solved. If they played video games, the answer to the bloodshed is simple.

Despite the sheer obviousness of this solution that the community representatives propose (ban everything that I don’t like), the police and government never seem to do anything about it. As a concerned citizen, I, with the aid of others, have taken it upon myself to do the next best (legal) thing. Welcome to the Registry.

• Have you ever listened to Marilyn Manson, or other "dark" music, and not disliked it?
• Have you ever gone to hollywood movies, and enjoyed them?
• Have you ever played computer games?
• Have you ever felt lonely?

Phase one of the idea of this website is to compile a list of people, like you and me, who pose a potential threat to society. Once the list is big enough to be useful (ie is several megabytes with hundreds of thousands of names on it) we move to Phase two - using the list.

Whenever the community is disturbed by recent violence, and seeks easy targets (your music perhaps, or a game you play, whatever), rather than bite the bullet and take a good look at itself, then people on the list - as duly appointed representatives of the Psycho Killers Registry [PKR] send the entire list (preferably on paper) to the local police department, as a service to the community, so that should any of the million or so people on the list ever turn up in the area, the police will know they have to watch out - a massacre could start at any minute.

Then, the representative writes an extremely articulate and publishable letter to the local newspaper/s, explaining as a public service announcement that people can now sleep soundly, thanks to the PKR, as we have given ourselves up - given the police a list of probable killers based on the criteria proposed by the people, such that the police now know who to keep an eye on. Also mention that due to the scientific and rational nature of the criteria, the list is actually two kilograms of solid paper, and is expected to tie up vast police resources for several weeks as they input it into their computers, however it will be well worth it for the boys in blue to know who the nutz are before they crack.

Also, having a list of dangerous borderlines like us could come in useful online - mail it to anyone who advocates stricter measures for these things, and cite it as an example of industry self-regulation, thus removing the need for a ban.
The list will probably be of such a size that just one person posting it could seriously mess with the recipients email in-box. But such sacrifices have to be made in the fight against murder-sprees. Besides which, someone’s in-box is nothing compared to publicly admitting you are a threat to society, as we will be doing, and as such, we arguably have a small island of moral high-ground on which to stand.

The only potential problem is that a real _genuine_ borderline killer might think it would be a great joke to sign up just before their spree, and thus sully the "good" name of the Psycho Killers Registry, which would be a shame.
But no-one could say we didn’t try to warn them.

The view that, say, "banning Quake (a game) will prevent future killings and suicides", necessitates the premise that the game makes people unstable, refuting the common-sense view that unstable people are attracted to the game because they can use it to fantasise. In other words, not only is a causal relationship claimed to exist, but it is insisted that the type of causal relationship is known, and is contrary to what is perceived.

What does this mean to us? It means that you should put yourself on the Registry, no matter how stable or sane or caring you feel, because a premise of the "ban things" argument, is that you will be changed and damaged by it, hence you can be a potential danger to society without knowing it yet.
 

Here is a list of some of the activities that brand you a threat to society. If you do any one (or more) of the activities in the list, or activities that probably should be in the list, please register yourself in the interests of your and our communities.

• Watching TV: Brainwashing stuff, like the news, US foreign policy, anything violent, wildlife and medical documentaries, MTV etc.
• Browsing the net: Evil stuff, eg anything that’s on the Internet.
• Enjoying music: "Bad" stuff, such as Marilyn Manson, NIN, Smashing Pumpkins? Death Metal, Heavy Rock, Rock…
• Playing games: "Evil" stuff, such as Doom, Quake, Dungeons and Dragons, Mortal Kombat, Vampire: The Masquerade, Paint-ball, Laser-tag, tag… etc. etc.
• Watching movies: Violent stuff, such as hollywood-anything.
• Being a male aged 18-25
• Not being a Christian.
• Being a Christian.
• Being bullied or picked on.
• Feeling lonely.

Other noticeable and not-so-noticeable absences include things that I think should be banned rather than self-regulated in this way (such as "Funniest Home Videos", for the crime of filling our TV channels with utter dreck, and trying to ignore the screams of agony by overdubbing the sound with idiot voice-overs making painfully pathetic jokes).
