When Agusan del Norte was made a province
separate from Agusan del Sur, by virtue of
Republic Act No. 4979, on June 17, 1967,
Agusan del Norte was then comprised of the
eight municipalities and one City. These included
Carmen, Nasipit, Buenavista,
Cabadbaran, Tubay, Jabonga, Kitcharao, Las Nieves and
the capital city of Butuan. A few years later the municipalities of Magallanes, Remedios T. Romualdez and Santiago completed the entire province of Agusan del Norte.
