NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE PHILIPPINES ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE ACCESSION CODE NO. X-96-R

Constructed in 1750's and occupied for more than a century, it was one of the early sites of Butuan settlement during the Spanish Colonial period. In 1756, the church was subjected to burning and destruction during the Muslim siege. Eventually due to natural environmental changes like seasonal flooding and erosion, the settlement and church were transferred to Baug (Magallanes) in 1863.

The National Museum of the Philippines recognized this site as an important archaeological heritage which serves as evidence of the achievements of the people in Butuan and Agusan. More than a source of inspiration and knowledge, the OLD BUTUAN CHURCH as an archaelogical resource is a non-renewable cultural wealth of the country which needs to be adequately protected and conserved by the local government civic-oriented groups, law enforcers and the community for the appreciation and enrichment of the succeeding generations of Filipinos.
