Magallanes...

    Magallanes was renamed after the Spanish conquistador Fernando Magallano, believed to have celebrated the First Mass in this place. A monument evidences it with the Spanish inscription portraying the first Catholic Mass in the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.

    From its original name Baug, it was created into a municipality by virtue of Republic Act No. 5660. A bill was passed to the Senate on May 6, 1969 through the efforts of the late congressman Jose C. Aquino and was consequently approved on June 21, 1969. The first set of Municipal Officials was then elected from the general elections conducted on 1972.

The founding fathers of the place were Macario Butil, Juan Plaza, Pedro Duncano, Welegio Dumdum, the Sumili brothers and one known as Cabesa de Barangay, Saturnino Sanches managed to shape the destiny of the place and installed the political and cultural fount that attracts people far and near.

The town fiesta is every third Saturday of October and its patroness is the Nuestra Sra. Del Rosario (Our Lady of the Rosary). She performed miracles to the devotees and believers of her miraculous power only after one has attended the High Mass of the dances the "Lisag" or locally dubbed as "Sinulog."
