As both a student and instructor of history, I've often cast a wide net in my search for source material. The Web offers a growing number of these resources, many of which I've used for my own research and provided to my students. There are numerous primary sources available, particularly government documents, oral interviews, newspaper editorials, photographs, etc.
Good historians will attempt to use those sources which are relevant to his or her work, discarding anything else. Thus, the decisionmaking process is often as time consuming as the search itself. Given the nature of the Web today, there's just as much "junk" out there as there are relevant sources.
I've compiled some of the best sources available on the Web. These links reflect my professional and personal interests; this metapage should not be construed as being comprehensive. Please post comments and constructive criticism on my Guestbook. Thanks!
