Educational Programs
Degree Programs:

Physical Education
(Associate in Art Degree)
This program emphasizes preparation for teaching or career employment in Physical Education or a number of other fields such as physical therapy, special education, recreation, athletic training, research and for positions in private industry or in public service.

Included in the program are the study of methods of teaching and coaching; rules, procedures and officiating of sports; history and principles of physical education and its relation to education in general.

Transfer Programs:

Majors in physical education must study various physical activity courses in depth.  Methods of teaching and coaching, rules, procedures, officiating of sports and an introduction to the prevention and care of sports injuries as well as a  study of the human body and its reaction to the stresses of vigorous activity are emphasized.  It is necessary, of course, for the physical education major to be in excellent physical condition.  In addition to the general education requirements and lower division preparation in physical education activities, the major must take Anatomy 1, Physiology 1 (or Biology 20) and their prerequisites.  Physical Education majors also study the history and principles of their profession and its relation to education in general.  Transfer students should consult the catalog of their intended four-year college to be sure they meet specific requirements.
