Note from the Author

Dear Readers:

THE BEST MAN, an April Release from Warner, was great fun to write. I like to take women out of their comfortable and safe milieu and place them in challenging situations that will allow them to discover themselves and grow. In past books that situation might be a relationship with a man or a child, it might be an arduous event like a 2000-mile journey by wagon train. In THE BEST MAN, I placed three pampered, coddled sisters on a cattle drive where the stakes are high. And I put one of the sisters in a wheelchair. Each of the sisters has a secret, and each has a lot to overcome.

My husband and I own horses, but I didn't know much about cattle or the cattle drives of the old west. The research was fascinating, and I developed a tremendous respect for the tough Texas Longhorns and the equally tough men who drove them north. And for the women who loved such men.

Which brings me to the romance!  I think Dal Frisco is one of my favorite heroes. He's a hard-edged cowboy with a dark past who's looking for a second chance. A tough man with his own code of honor who needs a very special kind of woman. I fell in love with this man, and I hope readers will too.

Early reviews on THE BEST MAN are the kind every writer dreams of, and I'm thrilled. I also had some wonderful news recently about THE PROMISE OF JENNY JONES. It's been voted as one of the Ten Best Romances of 1997 by the editors at Amazon.com. And it's a finalist for the RWA Favorite Book of 1997. I also learned recently that Turner Entertainment hired Corey Callie (who wrote the script for "Thelma and Louise" ) to write the script for the TV film of BRIDES OF PRAIRIE GOLD!!  At this time, filming is scheduled to begin in the late spring. So much good news has my head spinning, and I have my wonderful readers to thank.

I'm sending all of you a big hug!!
