Jeffries, Sabrina - DANGEROUS LORD, THE  (Avon - 3/00) (4+)
Setting: London, 1820
Because of the way everyone is greeting him at his club, Ian Lennard, Viscount St. Clair, knows someone is spreading rumors about him again. He soon discovers, according to the London gossip sheet, that he has been keeping a mistress for over a year!  Ian doesn't need this kind of trouble, and it's especially ill-timed because he recently proposed marriage to Katherine Hastings and he is impatiently awaiting her answer. Because of his father's will, Ian needs an heir within two years...or his inheritance will go to his hateful uncle. Although he doesn't love Katherine, Ian feels she is suitable and will make a proper wife and mother.

After discovering the author of the gossip is the infamous newspaper writer Lord X, Ian decides to use the spying skills he acquired in the war to learn the identity of this character assassin, then put a stop to all the lies. But when he arrives at the residence of Lord X, he gets a big surprise—Lord X is a woman!

Having been left nearly destitute and riddled by debts after the death of her renowned architect father, yet responsible for the care of her four young brothers, Felicity Taylor became the infamous Lord X. She wrote what she believed to be truthful, albeit damaging, about Ian because of his reputation and because her friend Katherine is absolutely terrified of him. Felicity is shocked when she is confronted by Ian, but defends her conclusions. He leaves after a very heated discussion, promising to exact revenge upon her for possibly ruining his chances for marriage—an oath he intends to keep, especially when he later discovers Katherine has eloped with another man.

Felicity realizes Ian is not someone she wants as an enemy; he can be a very dangerous man when crossed!  What if he reveals her true identity to her reading public? As bad luck would have it, both are invited to a country weekend where their vocal encounters continue. However, as the sparks fly, passion soon takes hold. Ian comes up with the perfect solution—an idea that will not only solve his dilemma, but also make Felicity pay for losing his fiancée. Felicity isn't going to make life easy for him though!

Sabrina Jeffries continues her "Lord" series with another marvelous romance set in the Regency period. The characterization is so rich that you can actually visualize Felicity and Ian, nose to nose, confronting each other. These two people mix like oil and water and the atmosphere is combustible whenever they are together. Readers will enjoy their titillating repartee and heated confrontations. The secondary characters in THE DANGEROUS LORD are also very entertaining, especially Felicity's impish six-year-old triplet brothers. And it was wonderful to revisit with old friends: Gideon and Sara from THE PIRATE LORD, and Emily and Jordan from THE FORBIDDEN LORD. I highly recommend this sensual, high-spirited romance—the perfect way to pass a cold winter's evening!  ~Sharon Laird for Bookbug on the Web

Jeffries, Sabrina - FORBIDDEN LORD, THE  (Avon - 1999) (4+)
Emily Fairchild, the daughter of a rector, is attending a masked ball with her cousin Lawrence in order to look for her friend, Lady Sophie. After locating Sophie, she steps out onto a dark balcony to search for Lawrence so they may depart. Thinking that she has discovered him, Emily climbs into a carriage and heads for home. It doesn't take long for her to realize that she's not in the carriage with her cousin, but with Jordan Willis, the Earl of Blackmore—a notorious rake.

At first Jordan assumes that Emily is a widow eager for some male company, and then he believes she's an innocent out to trap him. She finally convinces the Earl that it was her error to mistake his identity. As Jordan escorts her back to the ball, he finds himself quite taken with her wit and honesty...and he steals a kiss. But he tells himself that he will not lose his head over any woman, especially a young gentlewoman like Emily. And Emily knows that Lord Blackmore is forbidden to the likes of her.

Months later, Emily is summoned by Lady Sophie's father, Lord Nesfield, who is also her father's patron. It seems that Sophie tried to elope with some unknown suitor, but was caught and sent to Scotland. Now Lord Nesfield and his sister, Lady Dundee, want Emily to impersonate Lady Dundee's daughter at all the London social events so this unknown suitor can be drawn out and ruined. Emily refuses at first, but Lord Nesfield blackmails her into becoming "Lady Emma."

When Jordan glimpses "Lady Emma," he cannot believe his eyes. He has not been able to forget his short encounter with Emily Fairchild and is ecstatic to meet her again. However, he is startled when told that she isn't his Emily, but a total stranger instead. Jordan becomes suspicious and is determined to find out the reason for the charade. But Emily knows that if he discovers the truth about why she agreed to become "Lady Emma," he will hate her, and she will most likely be sent to prison.

Ms. Jeffries has written a very passionate Cinderella story, set during the Regency era. After suffering a very unhappy childhood, Jordan (a secondary character from THE PIRATE LORD) has promised himself that love will never weaken him as it did his father. Emily in turn has to hide her secret from Jordan, but she still wants to earn his trust. The encounters between these two spirited lovers will have you applauding, and the hot love scenes will have you reaching for a fan. Once you start reading THE FORBIDDEN LORD, it's difficult to put this book down!   ~Sharon Laird for Bookbug on the Web

Jeffries, Sabrina - PIRATE LORD, THE  (Avon - 1998) (4)
Pirate captain Gideon Horn and his men are tired of wandering the high seas and want to settle down with wives on their island paradise. They capture a shipload of women convicts, and the situation couldn't be more perfect for them. Each man, including Gideon, will choose a wife—after all, what have these women got to lose? However, on board the convict ship is Sara Willis, a reformer and the stepsister of a Lord. She had convinced her stepbrother to allow her to travel with the women to educate them and perhaps improve their situations when they arrive in Australia. When she hears Gideon's plans for the women, she is appalled. First she demands that the pirates court the women for a month, but Gideon allows only two weeks. Then when they arrive on the island, she makes more demands on behalf of the women, and Gideon makes her pay with kisses. As the demands escalate, so does the passion between Gideon and Sara.

THE PIRATE LORD is a wonderful story about two very strong personalities. Gideon has a mysterious past that made him hate English Lords, and of course Sara is the stepsister of a Lord, so there is a strong conflict. Secondary romances between several of the men and women also enhance the plot. Sabrina Jeffries has written an enjoyable pirate adventure that will bring both smiles and tears. ~Sharon Laird for Bookbug on the Web
