Ostara

On this day, night and day are of equal length, and the days will begin to grow longer. It is a Sabbat of balance of light and dark, where the Goddess wakes from her sleep, bringing fertility to the Earth once again. The God continues to grow to maturity at this time.

This Sabbat is a time of beginnings, and of fertility. Our modern Easter eggs are left over from ancient practices, when eggs symbolized fertility, and were used in sympathetic magick to bring fertility both to the Earth and to the women in the community. Popular Ostara activities include decorating eggs, planting seeds, and naming ceremonies. Popular altar decorations are decorated eggs, spring wildflowers, and seeds. Colors for altar candles include light green, yellow, and pink. Popular incenses are vanilla and jasmine. Foods for this Sabbat are hot cross buns, sprouts, hard boiled eggs, breads, and cakes.
