The Billings Montana Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

When the Church first began to prepare to build a temple in Billings they ran into a few snags. The temple site was outside the city limits and the city of Billings refused to anex the property. This prompted a small Wyoming town to offer to give the necessary land to the Church if they would promise to build the temple there. The Church met the City Councils requirements by reducing the size of the temple, decreasing the brightness of the nighttime illumination, and redesigning the whole site to blend in more with the local landscape. While this process delayed the start of construction by over a year, the result is a beautiful temple that is welcome in the city and the region.

The temple was announced on 30 August 1996.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 30 March 1998.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 20-21 November 1999.
There are 3 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 33,800 square foot temple.
The spire is 120 feet tall.
The Billings Temple serves stakes in Montana and Wyoming.
