The Ciudad Juarez Mexico Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Mexico is the perfect place for the new small temples. When all of the temples currently planned or under construction are completed Mexico will have twelve temples, more than any other country other than the United States, and twice as many as the next country, Canada, which will have six. Travel in Mexico, and especially travel from Mexico to other countries, is difficult at best. The city of Ciudad Juarez is a good illustration of this problem; the city is just across the Rio Grande River from El Paso Texas. The Church chose to build the temple in Ciudad Juarez since the members in El Paso could much more easily travel into Mexico than the other way around.

The temple was announced on 23 May 1998.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 9 January 1999.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 26 February 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 8,600 square foot temple.
The spire is about 78 feet tall.
The Ciudad Juarez Temple serves stakes in Chihuahua and the El Paso Stake in Texas.
