The Columbia South Carolina Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints


The Columbia Temple is the first of several planed small temples in the southern United States. Its exterior is made of marble quaried from Danby Vermont, which is about an hour away from the Prophet Joseph Smith's birthplace in Sharon.

The temple was announced on 11 September 1998.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 5 December 1998.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 16-17 October 1999.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 10,700 square foot temple.
The spire is ? feet tall.
The Columbia Temple serves stakes in South Carolina and parts of North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee.
