The Montreal Quebec Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints


In 1959 President Thomas Monson arrived in Montreal with six french speaking missionaries to open the first French speaking mission in North America. He returned fourty years later with President Hinckley to help with the dedication of the Montreal Temple, and to visit with some of the early converts. Montreal itself has 8,500 members and the temple will serve a total of aproximately 13,500 members in the area.

The temple was announced on 6 August 1998.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 9 April 1999.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 4 June 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 10,800 square foot temple.
The spire is 75 feet tall.
The Montreal Temple serves stakes in Quebec, Ottowa and Vermont.
