|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Textiles produced during the Early Bronze Age were woven on the warp weighted loom. In Northern Europe during the Viking expansion, many days spent indoors because of inclement weather shows us that the vertical warp weighted loom was a sensible textile tool for that time period. The Warp Weighted loom took up little space and could be placed near a wall in a dwelling; it could be broken down and stored or moved easily; it could be positioned near the door and the hearth so that there would be light and warmth to work. The Late Iron age gives us examples of both tabby and twill weaves; card or tablet woven borders are well established on these woven textiles. The fabirc was not coarse; textiles were woven with single ply, 20-32 threads per 2 centimeters. |
