In Our Secret Hummingbird Garden
Gardens are magical.  That's where our little jewels reside.  They nest there. They feed there.  And they play there.  But how do we encourage the little jewels to pick our personal garden over so many others?
What flowers can we plant that grow and thrive in our part of the U.S. that Hummingbirds flock to?  This is what we wanted to learn during the 2002 National Hummingbird Month.
We asked our members to send us photos and lists of their favorite hummingbird plants and flowers that grow in their area gardens.  Members sent lists including trees, shrubs, bulbs, perennials and annuals grown in their flowerbeds and in containers around their yards.  Some grow plants as houseplants and then set them out for their hummers in the spring.  We included all of these in our listing.
A HUMMINGBIRD LOVERS CLUB Research Project
These lists do not include all plants that hummingbirds feed at but are actually an ongoing collection of plants and information to assist you in creating a haven for your little jewels.
If you have any comments regarding this list, please let us know at the
HUMMINGBIRD LOVERS CLUB.
USDA Planting Zones
U.S. National Arboretum
To use this list in determining what you might want to grow in your garden to attract hummingbirds, we suggest that you first look at our Regions Map to determine where you live and where to begin learning about plants that grow well in your area.  Then click the link to that area map.  You will see a list of plants that have worked well in your region.
If you know your USDA Hardiness Zone and/or Sunset Zone, we recommend that you use that information in determining whether a plant will be hardy in your area.  Many plants listed may not be hardy in your area but can be grown in containers as an annual.  If you do not know your USDA Zone or Sunset Zone, we have provided links to maps for you to determine this.
