I have a strange passion for J.R.R. Tolkien and his tales of Middle Earth. It has always amazed me how his writing just pulled me right beside Sam and Frodo, Gandalf, and even evil Sauron. This page will have pics inspired by Tolkien's books, poems of his, and any info I can get about The Lord of the Rings, the new movie trilogy (Coming Dec 19th 2002 )...

All that is gold does not glitter,
not all who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither;
the deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
a light from the shadows shall spring;
renewed is Blade that was Broken:
and Crownless again shall be King.

See the Real Hobbit Files 2001!!
The difference I have found between Master Tolkien's books and all others of the genre is probably the emotion and compassion he gives his characters. No longer are you constricted to the politically-correct pat on the shoulder! The men are no more emotionless boulders who, when meeting their long-lost brother say, "Gee, Elethar, it's been awhile." and then shake hands. They have feelings like REAL PEOPLE!
Master Tolkien had the writing abilities to not only write about the time period, but write with the social standards of those living in it. You don't see too much of the dry, more modern style of writing found, say, in the Sword Shannara.(If you will permit me to drop names.) Of course, there is a great difference between the actual writing-times of Shannara and Lord of the Rings, but being both of the same fantasy genre, and with the same general story plot (Sadly, it's true.) it shouldn't matter...should it?
