| I have started a chin elop breeding program. Let me take a minute to tell you my story about my wish to have my own Chinchilla English Lops. I have always loved them, from the first time that I seen them. I have been looking to get one for about a year in a half. No one here in Michigan would part with them. I looked else where. We made a road trip along with some other breeders down to KY. I picked up some Elops from The Nelson's. I have Nelson's IKE REW, Nelson's Cleo Cream, Nelson's Harold Fawn and Nelson's Elvin Black frosted pearl. All are shaping out nicely. I had to wait for these rabbits to grow out a bit. I bought them young and feel that I picked them right. Nice bodies on all four and ears are 24 to 26, not bad if you ask me. Thank you Nelson's for the start of my chin program. Then the Convention came and went. I picked up a Blue Seal Self Chin buck from a young breeder from WA. This buck was sold to me by Rachel from SKR Rabbitry. Thanks so much Rachel, I have just fallen in love with him. He goes by the name SKR's Mc Cormick, ears 25, should reach 26 when his head is fully grown. I also got a Blue doe from Rebecca from Rebecca's Rabbitry. She goes by the name RD's Carol. She is growing nicely, thank you so much Rebecca! These two rabbits came out with John from Cotton Tail Express to the Convention, thank you John! Last but not least, I got Lotsalops Blue Spotted Pig "Shelley" Thank you Donna and Stacy for transporting her here too me. You've known forever that I wanted a REW doe! All of these rabbits carry that hard to get chin gene. I have six of my brood does bred three of those litters may produce chin! IM crossing my fingers and hoping that the little bunny stork will bring me some chin. When the chins finally arrive, they will not be available for sale, sorry. I want to wait till they are 16 weeks old till I decide wether I want to sell one or not. My hopes are to produce very nice chins that compete well on the table and that are up to the Standard of perfection. I do not want to sell them just for thier color alone. I want to sell very nice show rabbits as well as any other color that I breed. English Lops aren't really shown based on just their color alone why should I sell them based on their color. This is a personal goal for me! I want to produce top of the line rabbits, I want to produce winners and I think that I have learned a whole bunch in the last year breeding E-Lops that I think that IM on the right track. When I decide to sell my chin stock this is how it is going to work. I will be selling them in breeding pairs only! I will be taking a waiting list. The reson that I will only be selling them in breeding pairs is because it took me so long to get a rabbit that carried that chd or chl gene that would produce chin, I want to offer others the chance to start with a great pairs of chins. These will be showable rabbits only! If they are not showable they will not be sold! I am hoping to produce great type, ears 24 or better, and nice balanced rabbits type and personalities. That is my goal. I will be starting a journal on my progress when babies are here. Wish me luck, I have wanted them for so long that I can't wait till nest boxs are full of babies! 11/25/07~ I will be getting help with my chin line, I want to make sure that the chins that I produce do well and are up to the "Standard of Perfection". I want to make sure that their chin color is the best that I can produce as well as their type and ears. That is it for now, no babies yet. Thanks to Jenny for the talk. Will write more when babies are here :) 12/9/07~Four of the does were a miss, I still have two more that were bred the are due on the 13th, I hope they fill their nest boxes. Only one may produce chin. I have rebred one doe that may also produce chin but she will not be due till next month. If I get some I'll be writing soon. 12/21/07~Both does decided not to have their babies, I have one doe due next month, IM praying that she gives me a litter. IM having a real hard time with my Elop does. |
