Toimanor Pekingese are owned by Audrey Drake and her daughter, Janet Oxford and is situated in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Drakes were an Air Force family and their love of Pekingese developed when they were stationed in Audrey's native England. While living in the lovely English town of Banbury, they attended an English dog show where they met Mrs. Hilda Garwood of Hyldewood Pekingese. From her they purchased their first Pekingese Koo Rudi of Hyldewood and Koo Ying of Hyldewood. With Mrs. Garwood's encouragement, they exhibited at the English shows. Soon after this they purchased from Lady Isabel Throckmorton Tartar of Coughton and Oscar of Coughton. An Oscar daughter, Sherida of Essdee, and Tartar of Coughton, a beautiful miniature Pekingese were shown quite successfully in England Upon returning to the United States in February, l967 the Drakes brought five English pekingese back with them. Sherida of Essdee gained her American championship in seven shows with five majors and one reserve to a major. She was their first champion. Unfortunately, shorltly after his arrival in this country Oscar of Coughton, one of England's leading sires when brought over here, was tragically blinded at the hands of a veterinarian by the misuse of a steroid in an ulcerated eye He only needed one single point to finish his American championship. In 1969 the family again returned to Europe, this time to Germany taking with them their original five pekingese. The prospect of four years without attending dog shows was too depressing and so Am.Ch. Sherida of Essdee was exhibited in Germany quite successfully. It was a very interesting experience. In 1972 the family returned once more to the United States and made Fayetteville, Arkansas their home. At this time Audrey and Janet changed their kennel from Essdee to Toimanor and have used this identification ever since. Shortly after their return they purchased Champion Windemere's Dragon Power whose pedigree was loaded with English Pekingese. He was a group winner and a great influence on the Toimanor pekingese. Next came Szu Nori's Velvet Peepers who descended from the English Jamestown pekingese and the American Sing Lee kennels. They purchased a number of dogs from Mrs. Ruby Dudley of the famous Dud-lee pekingese, among them the very beautiful Dud-lees Yu Chin by Red Rouge who became their foundation bitch and from whom most of the Toimanor bitches are descended. She was a beautiful show quality bitch who unfortunately did not like dog shows but she produced champions. The Toimanor Pekingese as they exist today are descended from these dogs and the well known BIS.BISS. CH.
