President Jack Edwards
Receives Nobel Peace Prize

Stockholm, Sweden--King Olaf of Sweden presented Jack Edwards, President of the US, with the Nobel Peace Prize in acknowledgement of his efforts to promote world peace by building bridges of understanding between the developed and underdeveloped parts of the world.

"The road to peace is not an easy one," President Edwards said in his acceptance speech, "but it is one that we must walk if we want the world to survive."  This brought back memories of his 1992 campaign, dubbed "The Politics of the Impossible"

It was during this campaign that Edward's concept of "ecological thinking" was first presented.  It was immediately attacked as a "wild notion promoted by foreigners living on the margins of society."  However, Edwards found immediate support in the scientific community, where famed physicist Debra Halpainy explained  that his ideas were based on scientific fact.  The mystical community were the next to join his cause, stating that they would lead to greater understanding of creation and the Creator.

To the shock and surprise of the established parties, Jack Edwards beat out both incumbant President Bush and Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton, and was elected by a narrow margin.  He faced opposition from the start when he suggested that farm subsidies for cattle production be halted. He was accused of being everything from a vegetarian lunatic to a prematurely senile chicken lover until the huge outbreak of mad cow disease devistated the industry and caused the entire nation to re-think its eating habits.

The main turnaround for peace came when President Edwards answered the plea of Pope John Paul II to cancel Third World debt.  Dire predictions of world economic collapsed proved groundless as the governments of Third World countries proved more than willing to sign agreements not to borrow money again and to allow individuals to go across borders to help people directly.  This new philosophic entrepeneurship proved an economic boon for all.

Edwards' two terms in office were remarkably free of corruption and scandal.  His wife, Anne, spent her time as First Lady promoting the cause of helping special needs babies throughout the world.  His children, Jack Jr, and Karen,  grew from teens to young adults.  They are both following in their father's footsteps; Jack is now mayor of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Karen is a state legislator.

After the ceremony, Pres. Edwards was asked what he would do once his term was over.  "I plan to visit Mont St. Michele, where it all started," he replied.  "And then I am going to serve on the board of Refugees International."
