September

By Ayesha Haqqiqa

Synopsis: One weekend in September changes the lives in a group of people who are staying in a New England house.

Sam's Performance: Sam plays Peter, an accountant who has taken off the summer to write a book about his father. He has become involved with his landlady, an emotionally frail woman who nearly comes unglued during the visit of her mother with her latest husband. Another lady, Stephie, lures Peter into a one-night stand. Peter's confusion and sadness over what happens are quite moving.

Must-see scene: The scene in the pantry where Peter and Stephie share a very passionate kiss.Since Stephie was played by Dianne Wiest, the scene is more interesting for Law and Order fans than the casual viewer. Sam supposedly has said that he has always remembered that kiss.

Rating:

1 Sam means you can't stand to sit through the movie once; 5 Sams means you should buy the film and watch it over and over.

4 Sams

The very coloration of this film makes it seem magical. The portrayals of the characters are strong, and you wonder what happened to all of them after the weekend ended.
