The Boy Who Loved Trolls

By Ayesha Haqqiqa

Synopsis: A young boy goes on a search for a troll. When he finds one, he discovers that the troll is dying, and that he is the only one who can save him.

Sam's performance: I can't help but think Sam took this role with his young children in mind. If you like Sam sweet, this show is for you. He is playful and nice around the boy and with his friends, the mermaid and the turtle (played by William H. Macy, who steals the show!)

Must-see scene: When the boy first confronts the troll, Sam is extra playful and sweet. He dances around wearing a cape with a large troll face attached. You can picture Sam playing with his own young children as you watch his performance.

Rating:

1 Sam means you won't be able to sit through the movie once; 5 Sams means you'll want to buy the film and watch it over and over!

2 Sams

The problem with this made for TV film isn't Sam or the fantasy scenes, it's the rest of it. It takes FOREVER for the boy to get to see the troll, and then there are what seems to be hours of a pseudo-music video that is really bad.(The film was made when music videos were coming into vogue.) You get the idea the music part was added to make the film last the required 50 minutes. But you'd enjoy watching the fantasy scenes with your kids. Just fast forward over the rest.
